Speaking in Abuja on Monday at a press conference, Casmir Ifeanyi, president of the association, said section 3 subsection 1(a) of the act setting up the council provides that the chairman must be a qualified fellow of the council with five years post qualification experience.

Ifeanyi added that the act also mandates that the chairman should be appointed by the president on the recommendation of the minister from a list of names of the fellows submitted by the council.

He noted that Salako’s appointment has not met the criteria for an appointment to the position as stated in the act.

I think the article should have also stated that he's not a medical laboratory scientist, that's why he's not qualified to head medical laboratory science council of Nigeria (MLSCN)

I hate it when we bring unprofessionalism to what should be professional. How could the president approve someone that is not near qualified.
It shows that appointments do not really pass through scrutiny and due process.

The MLSCN act made some points known that before anyone would be appointed as Chairman, board of MLSCN, the person MUST fulfill these criteria;
- A fellow of the profession.
- Has 5 years post qualification in the board.
- Must be recommended by the board and the association (AMLSN) and sent to the Minister.

We don't care about the state or tribe the person is from. So far the person fulfils the above criteria, then we are good.

This is a good development from the association and the ministry. This is the right channel to communicate to the presidency rather using tribal and religion points of view to tackle the presidency.
There are many wrong people in civil/public service position who do not merit it in terms of:
Career progression
Training and certifications
Educational qualification
Experience and knowledge of such port folios.

This country is not going to work with issues of tribal superiority.

Tinubu will soon appoint MC Oluomo as minister of education.

Tribalism is not even the issue. The man (Babajide Salako) is not the right person to head the association.

We all know that he is a US-trained physician, but that doesn't mean he can be appointed to be the board chairman of an association of which he is not a member.

The constitution of the association is clear, and only a member in good standing can be appointed to be the chairman of the board.

I am a Yoruba man, but Tinubu really messed up on this.

President Tinubu didn't know the politics Medical Doctors played here. Everyone knows that the Medical Laboratory Scientists are number one enemy of the Pathologists(Medical Doctors that specialised in Laboratory Medicine). The Pathologists feel the Hospital Laboratory is exclusively for them, as they should head it and direct the affairs, while Medical Lab Scientists should be under them and serve them. On the other hand, the Medical Laboratory Scientists feel the lab is their home as they do not have any say in other area of the hospital and see Pathologists as intruders. Now, President Tinubu made a Pathologist who want Medical Lab Scientists to be eliminated from the hospital environment as the chairman of Board of the regulatory body. This means the game plan of Medical Doctors is working as they have use the Minister who is their member to impose someone who has no business with MLSCN. I hope President Tinubu understands the politics here and correct the anomaly.

He is not a registered member of the professional body. Neither is he a Trained Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Like the AMLSN President rightly said, "it's like making an army general the inspector general of police. Though he knows about security, he would fail woefully because he's not an expert in policing."

Whether it is about interprofessional politics or not.

The Law should be followed.

Not all physicians believe in illegality by the way. Like Scientists, some of them have candour and honesty as their watch ward. Many of them are silent because they know it is not right, but they must not be seen as not doing the usual spirit de corps with their colleagues in NMA.

Most medical professionals are not very good at approbating and reprobating at the same time.

Ultimately, the law should be followed.

If Dr Salako is an honest man, he will reject the appointment because it is indefensible. He is US-trained in his field and should not dent all his years of meritorious practice by embracing Nigerian illegality.

The law guiding the appointment of a Board Chairman for MLSCN remains sacrosanct and stands erect like the phallus of Priapus the Greek god, and must not be sacrificed on the altar of padi-padi politics.

Tunji Alausa the one who nominated him, should have also known better. He simply painted himself as a fraudulent professional, which is very unlike a medical professional in any field.

This speaks volume about Tinubu’s incompetent appointment, justifying the reason the country can’t move forward?
