It does make sense that people who have been accustomed to a certain type of system might be more likely to support leaders who reflect those values, even if they are not good for them. There's a concept called "path dependence" that refers to how the choices we make in the present are shaped by the choices we made in the past. So, in a country that has recently transitioned from monarchy to democracy, it's possible that the effects of that historical system are still present in the culture and may influence people's political decisions.

Yorubas and Hausa had organized monarchical systems where they paid homage to a single strong leader called Oba or Emir, this influences their political choices as well. They always see a reason to depend on someone who takes the position of what the Obas and Emirs were in this current dispensation, irrespective of whether the person is capable or not. They always want to be led and to have someone they can call their leader. So it does not matter if the person is competent, they will follow him. It's in tune with their culture
This mentality is more pronounced with the hausas than with the Yorubas because the Yorubas re more liberal and has accepted western education more, however this cultural trait is still there in both tribes.

So Yorubas and Hausas are more likely to obey a leader who can enforce himself and create the image of protecting their cultural heritage than someone from the east or southsouth. It's in their culture to worship humans like demigods.
It's the way many Yorubas perceive Tinubu, Awolowo and Abiola and how most northerners perceive Buhari.

It's hard for someone to attain the status of a demigod in the east even Ojukwu who led the Biafran war did not win any state during elections in the east. Peter Obi is getting popular because of his competence and how he sold himself (most Tinubu supporters will argue this).

it's going to be very hard to remove that cultural instinct of having to depend on a "leader" that projects their cultural agenda rather than someone that solves their economical problems. It's a way of thinking that has been pass down to them.

Yeah, this is just the genesis of the whole problem.

A Tinubu supporter from the west does not see Tinubu as the solution to Nigeria's problems, he sees Tinubu as a person that projects the cultural heritage of the Yorubas. A demigod

How can an individual whose loyalty and allegiance is absolutely to the tribe move this cultural diverse country forward? grin

What this country needs is a detribalised individual.

It's difficult to achieve that because every major tribe has diverse cultural behaviors, hence they will always disagree when they meet at the center.

The best way we can coexist is to further decentralize the country via regional government.

op its not their fault its is a self preservative behaviour people love their culture and race,,Nigeria should never be one in the first place blam lugard ,imagine if America white were outnumbered by the blacks the blacks will most likely vote a blacks candidate and whites will most likely vote a white candidate its everywhere,if only yorubas and hausas will agree to divide Nigeria but no they cant live without igbos.

The solution I think is a more decentralized system where we do not have to meet often at the center to show our differences.

Imagine this retard that majority of his generation voted his tribal man accusing Yoruba of tribalism.

You guys are pushing your propaganda too far, Tinubu only secured 65% of south west votes with many Yoruba voting for Peter obi while Peter Obi got 95% of East votes.
How did Peter Obi secured 95% of East votes if you didn't see him as emperor ? but it is Tinubu that barely got 65% of SW votes that his people see as the emperor he even lost Osun and Lagos state.

You clearly don't know what you are saying, Tinubu would have trashed Obi with at least 10 million votes if South west see him as you portrayed and there's no way he would have lost Lagos and Osun state.

You are just projecting what you are on others, you are the real tribalists. It's not guaranteed that Peter Obi would even be able to perform better than Tinubu if he was the one there, naira might be over 3k by now if it was Obi in charge.

I will see your wailing if somehow Tomorrow Tinubu policies started yielding fruit and the economy change. Hope all you delusional folks will eat your vomit.

Yorubas always vote Yoruba agenda. There's never been a time you see the results coming out of the west to be majority about competence. It's always an agenda type of voting.

It's the truth. Couple of Yorubas had won election in the east, no Igbo person has ever won the west. Guess who's voting along tribal lines

Shut up lol

I guess GEJ that majority of Yoruba voted for during his first term was a Yoruba man too.

If it was really about competence, Peter Obi the agulu fraud wouldn't secure 95% of south east votes, Ngige performed better than him in Anambra in all sectors but sure let's pretend it is not about Igbo being so desperate to produce a president.

When GEJ, if there were a prominent Yoruba contesting, you would have voted Yoruba agenda.
When Tinubu asked you to ditch GEJ for Buhari, you did.

All these still points to the OP. Almost everytime, Yorubas will vote wrongly

Your generation is just delusional

You think somehow you voted right when it could have been worse under whoever you voted for.

Your lamentation is just typical excuse of losers, Dollar could have been over 3k under Obi and Nigeria might have even collapsed under Atiku and GEJ just because you lost doesn't really mean you made the right decision.

You think electing Atiku, GEJ and Obi could have miraculously changed Nigeria but it may even be that Nigeria dodged bullets.

Nigerian politicians are all the same and the system is just too corrupt for a single man to do so much. You will wait long if you really believe a single man can change Nigeria easily.

Yeah. The Yorubas are tribalistic because a Yoruba candidate won 4 of 6 states in Yorubaland, while the other major candidates won basically more than 30% in all those Yoruba states. The ibbos, however are not tribalistic. They're nationalistic for having the ibbo candidate win ALL the 5 states in ibboland, where the other 2 candidates could hardly muster up to 20% of the votes combined in each state. I know due to the classic ibbo lack of selfawareness, you people don't realise how stvpid you usually sound with this crap you guys always push.

How can you have elders when 99.9% of the people from that region are products of baby factories?
Baby factory children will never obey their fathers and talk less to the elder

Baby factory children will insult people's elders because they are products of Almajiri human traffic

40% of the children from that side are Almajiri human traffic from the north, they traffic them to the region and sell them to their elders. Now, almajiri has grown up and you think almajiri will respect their elders, No, not possible.
