All frivolous imports and school fees and all what not should not be paid.

Direct this advice to your rulers. The common man is not at fault.

Your president just returned from a medical trip to France.

All your governors and lawmakers have children studying outside the country.

Your president wasted billions on useless delegates for climate change conference.

Your lawmakers bought foreign vehicles worth billions on their first few months in office.

Na today BDC wey the CBN even licence dey do fx trading? This administration has lost it. That naira they floated is the beginning of all these wahala. Even if they reverse the useless policy, things can't normalise in the next one year. You can't ask those who bought goods at the current fx rate to now be selling at a low price. They'd first exhaust their stock before listening to any government and this could take a year or even more to finish.

You really get the point.

I blame the people that supported him and forced him on us. All of us will suffer it but the supporters and Batists will cry more. They will be gnashing their teeth in regret.

Arresting people only serves to raise the exchange rate...so u wonder if the govt and them are working together. Best practice or world class policies which are liberal are the best approach. Policies that would cause an inflow.

I don't even know why a country should allow hard currencies that impacts on its economy to be traded, manipulated, skewed, round-tripped and pegged at whatever price that pleases a few illiterate guys who see it as their hegemony.

Who does that?

Nigeria is a joke.

why are they quoting the price from the official channel since they know they don't have control of the price? Is it not humans that are quoting the price? Can you tell me the dynamics they used in quoting the price? Are you saying you don't understand what influence this can get on the value of the naira to dollars? In a peer to peer group where do you think ppl get information from before quoting price?

Everyone is just saying their trash and not explaining why the FG's recent clamp down on speculators and hoarders is not the right thing to do.

Don't just throw balderdash anywhere out of greediness. Give proofs on why the FG's approach will not work and what should work instead. Remember, until you can prove it - it simply doesn't exist.

Na Gun Tinubu and Okoso Cardoso wan take halt the Naira wey dem float?

Wonders shall never end.

Economic Talibans.

Una must rule by fire by force.

Na una turn, indeed.

Shoot at sight any Dollar you see....lol

@me
You will not understand. In the 80s up to early 90s when the value of naira was higher than dollar one common denominator was that it was illegal to be seen with dollar. The malams on broad street were doing it illegally. They were constantly raided. There was no BDC. All fx transactions were done through the bank. Things as little as purchase of books were done through the banks.

Can't we return to this regime and stop this madness called speculation?

BDC should not be different from bank rate at all. Anybody selling above bank rate must be caught and jailed. They can charge the end customer transaction fee with the amount regulated by FG. You will see almost all the BDC will close.

By this time tomorrow the naira will be trading over #2000 to a $. This I've seen.

When the righteous rule, the people will rejoice!

There's a spiritual connotation to the goings on. The spirits of Nigerian ancestors must be angry. One person did abrakadabra and installed himself as president amongst over 200 million people and you think it shall be well in the land?
The illegal and illegitimate throne must to tumble until the right person it is, then it stays!!

I am ashamed of leadership of EFCC.

It appears the agency is bereft of an ideas of microeconomic system. BDC operators don't influence the stability of the currency. It merely sells and buys from people and government functionaries.

The governors and top government officials trade on the allocations due to the state and this put pressure on the naira. Ditto politicians who fail to patronise locally made goods in preference to foreign ones.

A good example is NASS opting for foreign Cars for their services. This put enormous pressure on local currency because our foreign reserves is deprived. It's used to pay for the services thus weakening the naira.

Until we patronise locally made products, we shall continue to suffer naira depreciation as currently despoiling the polity.

Too much sabotages and you expect good returns. The CBN officials should rather design tracking model that scrutinizes banks domiciliary transaction records in relation with the amount of dollars sold to them. A transaction that has no traceable client and items of purchase and subsequently does not yield traceable delivery of such purchase should be questioned while the banking unit affected get penalized heavily for such infraction.
THE problem should be cut off of the source of distribution to the BDC. Such biz is illegitimate to start with, heaven knows how it became this big a sore.

BDC operators full Eko hotel, VGC, ikota shopping complex, hanging around every nook and cranny of the Lekki corridor, they even stand outside banks.

Floating of the naira is ill timed, our currency is weak, we don't export, no demand for naira, how will the naira appreciate?

Rescind this floating of naira now, support the naira, the economy booms, government makes more VAT and taxes.

What was the purpose of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) going after bureau de change (BDC) operators?

The law of demand and supply will always take its course.
The fundamental question is this: Who is expected to be the primary source of foreign currency transactions to the public?
It is the banks.

The Central Bank sends dollars in bulk to the commercial banks. However, the foreign currency transactions are not provided directly by the banks. A bank customer has to purchase foreign currency from outside the bank, before he can make a deposit for an international transaction.

As for the allegations of currency speculation, the federal government previously made a decision to float the naira. They have got their wish.

Dear Muslims ummah, If Allah has blessed you, pls instead of using a huge amount to sponsor any Ramadan program on Radio or TV dis year. Use the money to feed d needy. Many donโ€™t need a Call to prayer or Ramadan TV lectures, they want food, something to eat, A hungry man can not yield to any advice or lecture. Instead of sponsoring people to Hajj this year, give the #4-5millions you will pay for Hajj to 20 families (#250k each) and see how Allah will bless you. Remember, Prophet Muhammad said, don't allow your neighbor to sleep empty if you have enough at home. People need food now, not an Islamic lecture or a Trip to Hajj. Only those who have eaten will listen to a lecture. May Allah have mercy on every one of us and help us to overcome this hardship. Aameen yaa hayyu yaa qayyum.
