Nepotism is what has brought Nigeria to it's kneel.
When Buhari came to power, he appointed so many incompetent people to hold sensitive positions simply because they are his kinsmen.
Competence meant nothing to him. Then Tinubuu came in and followed same path.
Now Nigeria is crawling on it's kneel.

By the end of Buhari's tenure Nigeria was dead broke.

Lies. Nigeria has been in debt since the days of Gowon. It was Obasanjo under smart IBO brains like Soludo, Ezekwesili and Okonjo Iweala that Nigeria cleared most of its debt. Even the Americans described this economic team made up of Ibos as a "crack team". No wonder they grabbed Ngozi and Ezekwsili to work for them. Things started falling apart again under Buhari who had no economic plan and Tinubu, who is a higher version of Buhari. What they both have in common is sidelining IBO's without having people with grey matter to do what the IBO's are capable of

Gej remains the best president since 1999 till date.
He had the best index on performance.
Gej is better than both Buhari and tinubu now put together

Things were not too bad then, inflation never exceeded single digit, please do not rubbish NOI good job. Gej met corruption and introduced measures to curb it through, IPPIS, BVN, Single treasury account and others, tell me any measure introduced by Buhari and Tinubu. If it was GEJ and NOI, they would have found a better way to control the FX transactions. APC people are simply demonic

I remember very clearly that even in the days of OBJ, Yaradua and Jonathan, folks were still complaining that things were hard.

People were abusing OBJ on a daily basis on this Nairaland.

Same as Jonathan, whom folks were calling ''clueless''.

In fact during the oil boom days of the 70s and 80s, people were complaining that things were hard.

Why do you think Fela was so popular?

Obj's first four years were so bad economically, that they were using the argument 'if someone has failed he should repeat' and' we should be patient it takes time to build up the economy from army damaging it'

Then, oil prices started rising, and the wise decision he made to liberalise GSM kicked in.

Yaradua and GEJ both benefited from sky high oil prices. This enabled them to hide the cracks in the economy easily. Once the crash of April 2014 happened, GEJ started using reserve to keep things up, and when it did not work, borrowing commenced.

Where Buhari and his sidekick TInubu messed up, and why they are bad is that they tried to maintain the good times of OBj, Yaradua and GEJ By borrowing and borrowing... and that's where our issues happened.

The thing is, I am not here to defend or attack your leaders, but to show you that my ultimate point is simple. When at least 80% of your revenue is dependent on oil price , and that same oil price is jumping up and down like a temperamental person's emotions.....problems are going to happen.

The thing is, the good times were fuelled by high oil prices. If GEJ had remained in power after 2015, you guys would be abusing him, or you would blame the oppositon...same way APC people are blaming everyone for the naira's fall, and not their master's refusal to diversify the damm economy since 2015....especially since the same thing happened before.

Yes, between 1973-82, we had a strong economy fuelled by high oil prices. Naira was equal to dollar. Then in 1982, oil price crashed, and the economy was downhill by December 1983. NO more oil money to hide cracks. THat is what gave Buhari the excuse to remove the shagari government by coup. Only for things to get worse...infact by 1989, the economy was in a bad state. Same for many oil producers.(Iraq invaded Kuwait because they needed the extra income from Kuwaiti oil. IN 1992, Venezuela had crisis, that led to Chavez's first coup attempt, which failed)

That's why we really have not had good leadership in this country. Prices high, we use money to pretend all is well. Prices low, we borrow and borrow, or IMF forces us to do SAP.
