Tinubu is not a sensible person. He speaks and acts before using his brains.

That was how he started without thinking.

Without thinking you removed subsidies. Without thinking you float Naira.
Without thinking you suspend Niger, Mali and Burkina-Faso.

Now everything went south, it is now Tinubu starts thinking.
Straight to the point.

Its so sad to see average Nigeria be so daft to the point that it's laughable.....Tinubu is the chair of ECOWAS ...which Nigeria is a member of...every santions that was put in place on those country was done collectively...Tinubus vote is not more than Ghana's president vote.....The hate going on now is so sad.

STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE

PRESIDENT TINUBU CALLS FOR SUSPENSION OF SANCTIONS ON GUINEA, MALI, NIGER, AND BURKINA FASO

President Bola Tinubu has called for the suspension of economic sanctions imposed on Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea by ECOWAS.

Speaking at the Extra-ordinary Summit of ECOWAS in Abuja on Saturday, President Tinubu, who is the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the organization, stated that: “Everything we did was in hopes of persuading our brothers that there existed a better path, a path that would lead to genuine improvement of their people’s welfare through democratic good governance. And this was a path each of our nations had solemnly agreed with one another pursuant to formal regional treaty and protocol.

“However, the sanctions that we contemplated might help lead our brothers to the negotiating table have become a harsh stumbling block. In my mind and heart, that which is hurtful yet ineffective serves no good purpose and should be abandoned.

"ECOWAS was established for the unassailable objective of improving the lives of the people of this region through fraternal cooperation among all member states. This edifice was cemented on the strong foundation and apt conviction that, united as one, we can be the true masters of our destiny."

The President further explained that ECOWAS took the steps it did based on the regional ideals of security, social stability; democratic governance, political freedom, broad-based prosperity, and sustainable economic development through fair opportunity for each and every one in West Africa.

He said neither hatred nor hidden motive influenced the steps taken and that there was never any intention to douse or undermine the legitimate political aspirations of any member state or to advance the interests of any outside party.

In calling for the suspension of sanctions, President Tinubu stressed that: "We must take note of the approach of the holy month of Ramadan and of Lent. Whether you pray in the mosque or in the church, this represents a time for compassion, hope, and harmony. It is a time that we must not only seek God but also a closer relationship with brother and neighbour.

"In the Spirit of the holy month and of the Lenten period, and with hearts bestirred by goodwill towards all our people, let us extend a hand as brothers and friends to those in Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea.

"What I suggest in real and practical terms is that we, my colleagues and fellow heads of state in ECOWAS, indefinitely suspend economic sanctions against Niger, Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso and against the leadership of the military authorities in those nations."
So insinuating Democracy is the perfect system. If that is so look at us Nigeria

For all those calling the president names because of this decision, just know that this decision is just the outcome of the meeting with General Gowon at the state house and you are all nitwit for thinking otherwise. Gowon is a respected elder statesman and one of the founding fathers of ECOWAS. Niger has been smuggling foods with the help of farmers from Sokoto & Kebbi. This illegal act is causing shortage of food in the south, especially south west, and in turn making the prices of food too high. The Presidents decision is a timely one and I respect him more for that reason.

I love BAT

God bless him

The highlighted effectively suggest that Sokoto state, and perhaps others in the north, belongs to Niger Republic. You stating that food is being smuggled from Nigeria Sokoto state to Niger Republic does not cast Nigeria in a stronger light if the result of said smuggling result in starvation in Nigeria.

That the Nigeria president was forced to renege on his sanction strategy due to sanctioned Niger Republic being assisted by Sokoto state to undermine that sanction in such a way that Nigeria was this adversely affected, effectively means Nigeria was sanctioned by Niger Republic.

Agree but you would also agree the sanction is also leading to smuggling of food to Niger as the right of passage of goods through the Nigeria port is being curtail , moreover they are other strategic National interest to consider which I won't want to divulge here ..

The sanction is not what is leading to smuggling food rather the drastic crash of the naira is what is fuelling smuggling.

Get ur facts right.

Really what's the point now when those 3 have left the member Community?

Sometimes look, observe, analyze, before making a decision.

Since when Ecowas was formed we are yet to see their progress as a community state.

how has Niger been smuggling food with the help of farmers of Sokoto and Kebbi?

why is it only farmers of Sokoto and Kebbi that are aiding Niger?

what has Sokoto and Kebbi farmers got to do with the issue of ECOWAS and suspension of sanctions on Guinea, Mali, Niger, and Burkina faso?

if you are licking Tinubus ass for this decision, are you also going to hold him responsible for mismanaging the situation to the point that 4 west africans countries wanted to pull out of ECOWAS at once?

if you kissing Tinubus ass because of this decision, how come you are now telling us that "just know that this decision is just the outcome of the meeting with General Gowon at the state house"?

That's very statesmanlike.

NOTE: The decision to suspend Niger was a joint ECOWAS decision taken by ALL the Presidents and NOT an individual decision taken by the Nigerian President. This is to correct the misinformation of the poster above me and his dishonest ilk.

In the final analysis, negotiation skills have to kick in whenever there are crises situations around the world. Emotional intelligence is key in every human interaction for sustainable development. The military must be encouraged to return to democracy at the shortest possible time with sanctions lifted gradually to enable full integration into ECOWAS in the light of several capital projects such as the international gas export pipeline project passing through Niger Republic to Algeria via Nigeria which will have huge economic significance in West Africa for gas exports to Europe.

There's still a 50/50 chance those 3 countries of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso would still go ahead with the plan for their own confederate state or union. If they do go ahead then they'll have to go through some birth pangs. Just like Senegal and Gambia that fused to form Senegambia but later broke up again to become independent of each other.

Singapore and Malaysia also fused into one union in the 1960s but later went their separate ways with Singapore majorly being the better for it under the guidance and leadership of the late Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew who took that city-state from a developing nation of about 3 major ethnicities of Chinese (over 80 percent), Malays, and Indians, to a world-class, technologically and economically advanced nation.

Leave story. BAT hast lost the stare down, the contest of wills, he has blinked first with a wholesale capitulation (not the gradual removal of sanctions you mention).

He acts without thinking and has been demystified. A great politician doesn't always make a great president.

Do you know what smuggling is, if there was no sanction and the Naira crash there would still be mutual exchange of food from both countries.

After the fuel subsidy debacle, he
threatened war on Niger Republic, and
gave them 30 day ultimatum.

Now, he is basically begging them
say make dem no vex.
