NFIU: Kalu, Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes Committee Screen Hasfat Abubakar.

As part of what the constitution requires, the Senate is saddled with the responsibility of screening nominees sent by the President for evaluation for possible confirmation or decline.

On Monday, 26th February 2024, Senator Kalu performed his constitutional duty of screening a presidential nominee for DG/CEO of Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Hasfat Abubakar Kyari, who was screened by the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, chaired by Senator Emmanuel Udende.

The nominee read out her very rich Curriculum Vitae to the satisfaction of the senators present.

The former Governor of Abia State, H. E Kalu, while asking the nominee questions, said;

"1. She has the experience. 2. She has the capability of doing the job. 3. She has gone through the ladder to know the job. 4. She did not just come, because she was appointed. 5. She is well qualified to do the job."

The nominee, Hasfat, who is an Alumnus of the University of Maiduguri, coincidentally like Sen. Kalu and Sen. Udende answered the questions.

The nominee was screened and recommended at the committee level, to be reported at the Senate gallery for approval.

The screening was called to order, and came to a close at 3:30 pm.
