Two riot policemen have been beaten to death, and two others injured by a mob at Ikpeshi in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo state.

The Nation reports that the mob action following an incident involving a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to escort-duty policemen in the convoy of former Edo House of Assembly member Emmanuel Agbaje, which hit a motorcycle, resulting in the tragic deaths of the rider, a woman, and her child.

Ikpeshi youths, according to sources, besieged the office of Edo State Security Vigilance Network, where the two policemen were taken, thereby overpowering and beating them to death.

However, two other policemen were rescued by the vigilance members, and their rifles were recovered.

The rescued officers are currently undergoing treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Edo.

Chairman of Akoko-Edo local government council, Tajudeen Alade, who condemned the activities of Ikpeshi’s youths, declared that the persons involved would be identified, arrested and prosecuted, to serve as a deterrent to other errant youths.

Edo Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chidi Nwabuzor, a Superintendent of Police (SP), also confirmed the incident.

The most inconsiderate and lawless set of road users in Nigeria are the Nigerian politicians. An ex member of the House of Assembly is still using police escort. Anyways, that's what corruption has reduced NPF to.

Did the accident happen because the Hilux brake failed? Probably not! Did it happen because the Hilux was dodging another vehicle? Probably not! It happened probably because the Hilux driver hired without proper scrutiny, paid with looted money and overfed with stolen palliatives was forming king of the road to please his paymaster whom he considers as the only human worthy to live. Should it even be considered an accident?

About a month ago somewhere between Abia State and Imo State, 8 or 9 passenges, said to be members of one family, traveling in a Sienna rammed into a trailer loaded with building rods. All of them in the Sienna died. What caused the accident? A speeding convoy with covered number plates and tinted glasses pushed the Sienna into the trailer. Guess what! No vehicle in the convoy stopped or slowed down to check what happened. I don't think any certified media house reported that incident. And if no certified media house reported it, it is an indication that the politician is a highly-influential one.

The next craziest road users in Nigeria are those that escort bullion vans. They unnecessarily intimidate other road users.

I respect Edo and Delta in things like this. They take actions without looking at anybody's face. #EndSARS protest started in Delta State but misinformed youths think the protest started in Lagos State. If the SARS brutality that triggered the protest in Delta State had happened outside Edo and Delta, the protest would probably not have happened. Whoever owns the convoy that caused the accident that killed Sienna passengers in Imo State would have been exposed if the accident happened in Delta or in Edo.

So sad.. RIP to the dead..

It's possible the escorts didn't manage the situation well...those present around the scenes might have been triggered by "Nothing dey happen " posture of the escorts.

Jungle justice still not the solution though.

In advanced countries only, ambulances and firetrucks are allowed to overspeed, but in Nigeria, politicians drive like mad people recklessly on the road, killing innocent people on daily basis.

Police or security agencies should use brutal force when needed on MoB.

It's high time we become inflamable, that was how a lastma official parks his vehicle at alakija underbrigde just at the edge of a bend, greeting a friend, a container trying to negotiate the bend rammed into the last a highlander, other lastma officials went berserk, only to be subdue by the naval personnel controlling traffic.
