Smh. Zimbabwe should rather come and learn from Nigeria. Imagine a former Nigerian President recommending Zimbabwe to Nigeria, same Zimbabwe that almost ran out of forex until Afrexim helped them at the dying minute in exchange for control of their platinum mines.

Nigeria is not having any unusual problems outside the removal of subsidy and floating of the naira. It will eventually ease out. This decision should have been taken by the predecessors of the current President, including Pa Obj himself, but they were wasting our hard earned forex to defend the naira against the USD and looting locations meant to revamp our public electricity supply system.

May God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!
But the economy was not this messy under OBJ.
How could he have been defending naira and looting yet still left excess in reserve and crude account?
Don't you think Tinubu should copy that model of looting?
Besides, it's a testament to how bad Tinubu is that he's been sent on a crash course to Zimbabwe!!

All those leaders you mentioned created the problems Nigeria is facing today. There is no better one among all of them. They were borrowing money to pay subsidies and support the naira instead of working on building infrastructure, improving power supply, education and building an environment that can foster manufacturing and exportation.

They wasted our resources. You were buying Petrol at #200 you thought they loved you. They destroyed Nigeria's future. Let's see if this one there will be any better.
Do you know how many times OBJ attempted to remove subsidy? More than five times!!
Do you know who stood in his way? Oshiomole!! At least we all know who was beating the drums for Oshiomole now
The people who killed this country by making it difficult for former govts to remove subsidy are the ones in charge now.

Even if they have not yet come out of inflation, but they have succeeded in reducing the rate year in, year out.

Yea wallow in your delusion, all of them was bad, none of them tried to removed the subsidy and was called out as a scam and corrupt. Subsidy at a time wasn't beneficial and today those that staged protest calling it scam removed it carelessly with no plan at a worse time but they are the good ones while the former were all bad. Which of them sold fuel for #200? Even when subsidy was removed by Jonathan it was #145 but it was a scam and they were all bad. We must begin to bring up our youths in the culture of peace and security.

The way OBJ keeps parroting “The Youths This, The Youths That” is beyond annoying.

How many youths did Obasanjo EMPOWER or give APPOINTMENTS to during his own administration?

He has suddenly remembered “The Youths” now that he is no longer in Aso Rock; commenting on, and addressing National Issues that he failed woefully to address during his own administration.

A veritable example of: Experts at removing the speck from other people eyes, while leaving the log in their own eyes intact.

That was how he lied that he never pursed “Third Term Ambition”.

That was also how he lied that Olu Agunloye (his former Power & Steel Minister) awarded a contract of US6 Billion Dollars without his consent & approval.

The US16 Billion Dollars Power Project he wasted & siphoned during his administration is the reason Nigeria is still in darkness.

https://punchng.com/16bn-electricity-project-buhari-tackles-obasanjo-asks-wheres-the-power/?amp

If anybody is keen on knowing how useless & despicable Obasanjo truly is, read Iyabo Obasanjo’s Open Letter To Him in 2013 - and you will never respect this agbaya again.

Baba, go and sit down in one corner and keep shut with your stinking hypocrisy.

If Bulaba leaves office today and wants to give a talk on the economy, I'll sit at the front seat.
You know why?

You not only learn from those who have succeeded; you learn a ton as well from those who have failed.

Success is as much as avoiding pitfalls as it is making progressive strides towards the goal.

The successful shows you the goals he attained, the unsuccessful shows you the pitfalls that ruined him.

Don't be myopic.

The only reason Naira is depreciating is due to those hoarding the dollar... what those that have excess naira are doing now is to buy up as much dollar as they can to make profit... dollars should be for only those that need I for traveling or to pay for goods and services in USA alone ...

Outrightly ban the dollar, make it illegal, anyone caught with dollars should be arrested... give all those that are holding onto it one month to submit it to the nearest bank at 1k per dollar or have the risk of loosing it entirely once the deadline is crossed ...

All domiciliary accounts should be shut down , and all foreign currency should be converted to naira ... all BDC should be shut down ... if u need dollars , go to the banks ...

Again, FG should arrrest 5 bank MDs along with the execs to use them to set example for those bankers that round-trip ....

For those saying it's because we don't produce, know that Nigeria has always been an importing nation... let's also know that usa import their oil, USA also import some of their goods due to cheat labour in China and Indonesia .... we should ask ourselves why Benin Republic currency is doing better.. they don't need the dollars to hoard... they also import massively and they don't even have any tangible export to earn dollars , but their currency is doing way better than ours ...

I'm not saying that local production would not have an effect, it will , but not as much ... Nigerians are the reason why the naira keeps on depreciating... cos we wanna use it to make money... we are the only ones that do this nonsense in this whole world ... u can't go to Spain or Portugal or Kenya or malaysia or Bolivia or Lebanon and u will see their citizens buying up dollars to hoard so that it creates scarcity to make gain thereby destroying the country... our president is also guilty of this cos he shared dollars to delegates tk get elected ... why wudnt the naira keep on crashing

MAKE THE DOLLAR ILLEGAL AND WATCH HOW NAIRA WILL APPRECIATE

Only those that genuinely need it should get it thru the banks and u will not even get it in cash ... it will be wired electronically to the company or person that needs it only in the United States... if u wanna buy good from China, u don't need dollars , u need yuan , if u wanna import from Europe, u don't need dollars, u need euros or pounds... and only the banks will run that for u... when coming into the country, u must declare and submit ur foreign currency to the cbn stand in the international airport and then u will get the equivalent in naira, and when travelling, ur bank will give u a special card that can act as PTA or BTA with limited amount to spend ..

Do this and watch the dollar to naira crash to 150- 200 naira in a couple of months
5 bank MDs should be arrested for what offence pls?
Just to make you sleep well at night abi?

A minister said the poor cannot steal doors from a food warehouse because they're too weak to remove them in the first place.

Politics of starvation, let the hunger games begin.
Constitution is wrong.

EMEFIELE AND THE CABAL SCREWED UP TINUBU'S ADMINISTRATION BY PREEMPTING THE CURRENCY CHANGE.

THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN THE RIGHT TIME TO CHANGE THE CURRENCY SUDDENLY.

NO ONE REALLY KNOWS HOW MUCH OF THE NEW CURRENCY WAS PRINTED ?

NO ONE KNOWS HOW MUCH OF THE OLD CURRENCY WAS RETREIVED ?

AND IF TINUBU ATTEMPTS TO CHANGE THE CURRENCY NOW, NIGERIANS WILL OPPOSE IT.

ITS A HARD MESS TO CLEAN UP.

I THINK EMEFIELE SHOULD NEVER BE LET OUT OF JAIL, ONE MAN CANNOT CAUSE ALL THE NIGERIANS TO SUFFER.

Now I've never believed in subsidy removal especially the way our politicians parrot it but the point is if Tinubu knew that subsidy removal was the right thing, why did he instigate opposition to it right from the time of OBJ up to Jonathan's?
Secondly, this idea of always blaming past leaders for the misrule of the present is something that needs to be dropped from our national psyche.
Politicians have wired Nigeria around that smokescreen such that it becomes an alibi.
Tinubu it was who removed subsidy. It was he who floated the naira. Why blame past leaders for his decisions?
If you know that you don't have solutions to a problem, you stay away from the responsibility. You can't become president, enjoying all the office offers while blaming past occupants for your inability to perform based on your campaign promises.
Buhari used that tactic to spend 8 years. He even told different lies like $16bn power under OBJ and claiming that his govt was getting the least income from oil. Those were lies and his supporters turned it to an anthem. I'm sure he adopted that because he knew his mugu supporters will buy it. How has the mighty fallen? Obj advising nigeria to learn from Zimbabwe? Is she even doing well economically? Only one state economy in Nigeria is better than the whole of Zimbabwes economy. My problem with this sanctimonious and self righteous old man called obj is that he has never admitted he is the architect of our present bastardized democracy. He is the one that planted the seed of corruption in our judiciary and national assembly when he started distributing ghana must go to them for his selfish interest. What about the malpractice and violence in our electoral system? Who started it? Under whose leadership the politicians started becoming overly desperate to do an undo just to win elections. Who announced publicly that a forthcoming election will be do or die affair? Who single handedly took some unpopular and undemocratic decisions without following the dictate of the constitution while he held sway as the president? Who single handedly gave out part of this country bakassi just to please the western power without approval from the national assembly and the indigenous people of the area? Who wasted $16billion of our hard earned foreign exchange on the power sector without tangible result to show? Till today, baba has never admitted he made desperate attempt to achieve a term agenda? A sitting President building a presidential library, forced close associates and public office holders to donate handsomely but claimed it as personal project. A sitting president under whose nose his VP built a private University while the public ones are under lock n key cuz of strike. I can go on and on but let me stop here for the time being. No matter the challenges confronting us, Obj isn't the right elder statesman to be dishing unsolicited and unreasonable advices to Nigeria. He need to come clean, tender public apology and seek forgiveness from Nigerians for laying foundations for all the wrongs with our nascent democracy. He has a golden opportunity in 1999 to chart a new direction for this nation, what did he do with it?

Chai, illiteracy is bad. So you blaming OBJ for Buhari and Tinubu failure now huh? How much was Pms during his time? And did Nigeria experience hunger and starvation or this level of hardship during his tenure? He wasn't excellent but he's one of the best if not the best civilian president Nigeria has ever gotten. Operation feed the nation was his initiative, he's the reason u buy cheap data today to constitute nuisance on here to defend rubbish and he handed over the government to a capable hands in Yaradua who despite being a Fulani man was excellent but unfortunately death took him away and Jonathan in all his albeit lazy approach has proven to be far better than both Buhari and Tinubu combined. Jonathan removed fuel subsidy and Tinubu claimed it was scam, went into a wicked alliance with Buhari to bundle him out only to ruin the country. Who's karma dealing with? Tinubu or a retired baba that's just trying to give one or two O.T to the empty heads u support. Waste of space

It's evident that you're fervently defending Obasanjo, but let's dissect the reality here. While Obasanjo may have initiated some commendable programs like Operation Feed the Nation, his tenure was riddled with shortcomings and failures. As a military head of state, his regime was characterized by human rights abuses and political repression, with numerous instances of corruption and economic mismanagement.

Transitioning to his civilian presidency, the story wasn't much rosier. Yes, there were strides made in certain areas, but they were overshadowed by rampant corruption, electoral irregularities, and a failure to adequately address critical issues like infrastructure development.

Speaking of infrastructure, let's talk about the deplorable state of roads in Ogun State, Obasanjo's home turf. Despite his prominence and influence, the roads in Ogun State remain a glaring testament to neglect and inefficiency. This speaks volumes about the priorities and effectiveness of his leadership.

So, before idolizing Obasanjo as the epitome of Nigerian leadership, let's acknowledge his failures and hold him accountable for his shortcomings. Blaming current leaders for past mistakes is futile if we fail to recognize and address the systemic issues that have plagued Nigeria for decades. It's time for accountability, not blind hero-worship.

I believe it is foolishness to allow politicians to use your head as trashcan to fill their garbage.
I don't even know what you are talking about. There's something called political will. Jonathan lacked the political will to remove the subsidy. There were protests then, if he couldn't stand his ground that was his problem. Was it also Tinubu that asked him to reduce fuel price from #97 to #87 before the 2015 election? Did that look like someone ready to go all the way about subsidy removal? Was it also Tinubu that prevented Jonathan from going after Boko Haram until shortly before elections in 2015? What stops the opposition from going against Tinubu now? Why did many believe in subsidy removal now and not during Jonathan's time?

I didn't join any stupid protest then and I NEVER voted Buhari because it was clear all along that subsidy either had to go or be drastically reduced. So what do you call a president who was stopped from removing subsidy in 2012 only for him to add to the subsidy in 2015 by bringing down fuel price by an additional #10? Some of you argue so blindly.

In addition, it's foolish to not see the impact of prior bad leaders in today's problems. #16bn is a lot of money for a poor country like Nigeria to waste. If it had been judiciously spent I'm sure succeeding governments will not need to be grasping with the problem of power supply. They'd do something else. In all to me they're all the same. If you choose to think one is better than the other because of tribalism, that's your problem, not mine.
