The Danger Of Church Denominationalism And Doctrinal Boundaries Part 2 by TVTM2023: 9:34pm On Mar 06
The second aspect of forgiveness is the need to forgive !
We must forgive others as Christ has forgiven us!
Colossians 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
Unforgiveness involves chain sins of anger, bitterness ,betrayal, clamour ,evil speaking, gossip, grudges ,malice, hatred, resentment, strife, slander, contention, and wrath!!!
Jesus Christ knew that we would be offended!!!
But the offender can become a stumbling block to a little one!
Luke 17:1 Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

Offences are therefore unavoidable and it is something one can easily fall into ie one can offend another and one can easily be offended!
This was the reason why Jesus Christ told Peter to forgive 490 times.
Matthew 18:21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

18:22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Offences therefore are categorized into two parts on the part of the offender!
1) offender part -deliberate (commission) and unintentional (omission)
It is the reason why if the lord marks iniquity who shall stand

Psalms 130:3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
Trespasses and transgressions, iniquities are sins of commission.
In the lord's prayer, this is why we are told to forgive our trespass as we forgive those who have trespassed against us.
Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Now an offence is like a debt because the offended becomes wounded and needs the offender to admit wounding them and to confess and pray for them(the offended) to be healed.
Without confessing what the offender did,the offended can never be healed.
Without the offender admitting to what the offended say and being accountable for their actions, they can't be healed.
There is both a need to open up(confess) the sins of the offender and the offended must also say it out.
The offended must be able to FORGIVE from the bottom of their heart the sins of the offender when there is a confession.
Genuine sincerity and honesty is what is needed in such cases than insincerity and hypocrisy!
The first step is confession than covering!
James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Healing in this category is soulical(mind, will and emotion) and body(organs )
The prayer of both the offended and offender can never be answered!
Matthew 5:23 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;
5:24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Failure of both sides to admit their faults and sins will result into one party now becoming an adversary!!!!!
The adversary does the work of the devil.
An adversary is someone bent on revenge because of what the offender had done to them.
An adversary takes the place of God and delivers one to the judge ,then to the prison.
Matthew 5:25 Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.
Sins of omission are those of errors, faults and mistakes.
It is a sin one is not aware of that is committed ignorantly of God's laws or under the lack of spiritual maturity!
It is a sin of indirect rebellion against God.
It is also an act of foolishness and spiritual madness.
These sins bring quick divine intervention to save the offender from offending further.
An example of this is that of Moses after killing an Egyptian to save his fellow Hebrew brother saw two Hebrews fighting again and wanted to intervene but was rebuked by his own brethren.
He now fled into the land of Midian for 40 years to correct his mistake and save him from offending God.
Abimelech the king of Gerar was another example .
Genesis 20:3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, thou art but a dead man, for the woman which thou hast taken; for she is a man's wife.
20:6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
It was a normal culture and tradition for the the king of Gerar eg Abimelech to take stranger's wives who were beautiful.
He had been doing this for long and nothing was done to him by the offended until he came across someone of God.
God restrained him from doing this because though the fear of God was not in the land of Gerar,Abraham lied to Abimelech that sarai is his sister.
It was a sin of omission but God still prevented Abimelech from doing evil.
2) Direct and indirect offences :In such cases ,it has to do with the excesses of the offender which in action, reaction or inaction would hurt others .
Jesus Christ explained generally in the scriptures these things which has to do with someone excesses which can be an offence.
Matthew 18:8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
If what we are used to doing with our hands (work) would offend us ,it's better not to DO IT!
IF where we go to ( visitation,OCCASSIONS or gatherings offend us) we should not do so,we should discipline ourselves so that we would not finally go to hell fire!
We should not entail such compromise to please our excesses and then be an offence to be cast into hell fire.God forbid!!!
Matthew 18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
If what we see offends us we should not watch it.
It's better than not watching it than watching it with two eyes and becoming a candidate of hell fire!
Matthew 18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
In dealing with the worldly system, taxation was one of the things done those days!
Jesus Christ emphasized the need to comply because we on earth are strangers and sojourners ,Heaven is our final home.
Customs or tribute were by law legal on the people
Matthew 17:24 And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
17:25 He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
Matthew 17:26 Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free.
17:27 Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee.
Back to Abraham's and Abimelech casefile.
After God restrained Abimelech,he said unto Abraham as bedone.God closed up the wombs of the wives of Abimelech
Genesis 20:17 So Abraham prayed unto God: and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children.
So God healed Abimelech.
This case was solved.
Genesis 20:18 For the LORD had fast closed up all the wombs of the house of Abimelech, because of Sarah Abraham's wife.
It is clear to note that offences close up bowels of compassion and mercy in a person and breeds malice ,grudges and bitterness so they cannot flow in love or be at peace with those they suppose to be at peace with.
The offended is hurt, wounded, bitter, seeks revenge, and is always angry seeing the offender walking busy about as if nothing happened.
This thing is so sad because the offender may not even notice how hurt the offended is at all.
There are some people who are also narcissistic and toxic in nature.
They derive joy in seeing others offended and hurt or suffering.
It is a clear discernment to see those who are happy with us when they see us and see those who are not happy with us when they see us.
