it is not as easy as you see it.

Not ease but we can do it. Nigerians are just impatient and saboteurs.

Trading crude oil in Naira is probably the only advantage of joining BRICS at this point. If the word used to describe its possibility is 'may', then it becomes worrisome because we might just end up boosting another country's economy while ours continues to deep.

I saw this news with mixed feelings

The main reason been that the clueless APC will have excuse and sufficient time to inflict more pains and hardship in the name of waiting to join BRICS

My only concern is this: I hope they have thought this through.

Not after some time, down the line, we start seeing unexpected consequences and before you know it, government is making a U-turn.

@musicwriter

Thanks for this information.

As it stands, Chinese and russia have in recent times proven themselves to have imperial ambitions. Because they did not take part in the slave trade does not make them better.

musicwriter:

As far as Africa concerned, Western interest since 332 BC has been to enslave you, colonize and exploit you, re-colonize you.

But in the midst of all these, China and Russia stayed away from hurting you, even though they had everything it takes to join them to feast on you. In fact, they stayed on your side to demand that you be free.

Yes, they have interest like everyone does but their's isn't about dehumanizing you.

Be informed that Russian and Chinese efforts led to the united nation's (UN) declaration of emancipation of all colonized countries.

For a little more information about how the West dehumanized your ancestors VS how China and Russia tried to save you, see European crimes in Africa - European crimes caught on camera during colonization of Africa https://www.africason.com/2022/04/european-crimes-in-africa-during.html

We have to look for daily bread in a good manner. That’s how we all can have a better country and enjoy it. Where some are trying to be smarter or trying to outsmart others, there would be chaos. You don’t need to circumvent any system to get what you want.

Average citizens have always been the ones that are impatient and they have always been the one that suffer most.
If we say this river o, nobody should and fish on a Saturday o, someone mustn’t be trying to be smart or trying to outsmart us and then go to the river on a Saturday to fish after we have all agreed not to fish.

What we want government to correct for us were scattered by average citizens.
Ordinary lane discipline, we can’t maintain it when we are driving and we blame government for holdups.

You want to do common NIN, you already know how May ogas you have called ahead just to get there and get yours done while those you met there are still waiting.
My brother, the list is endless. It is when we choose to do the right thing, that’s when Nigeria will be better.

what's your point sir? The govt policy brought about hardship, and you're here blaming people. Who floated currency? Who removed subsidy? Nawao.

Thomas Hobbes said "man by nature is cruel, brutish and nasty in the state of nature", this is why we all surrendered our rights to indiscipline to the govt to administer the state. You think Americans don't like stealing? They do. It's the society and law that will catch-up with them. So stop blaming Nigerians blame the govt for failing to manage the system well

Before they floated currency and before they removed subsidy, Nigerians have been bad. It’s not subsidy that started the reason why Nigerians are poor. It’s because we are bad and we like exploiting ourselves.
It’s not that Nigeria doesn’t have laws. It’s the same Nigerians that don’t allow the law to work.

But come to think about it: government is not a ghost. Government is human being. Stop seeing government as that coat of arms. It is when we stop seeing government as 36 governors, 109 senators etc. That’s the day things would start getting better.

It is not every human being sitting at every desk and at every duty post, representing you and I that are government.
Government is every citizen.
If I chose to do good, and you chose to do good and everybody chooses to do go, we could have more than 90% of people that would do good and our country would be better.

I still blame this situation on us.

being:
If Nigeria likes let it sell oil in cowries, it changes nothing aboutbthe economy. the fundamental issue is what is ur import demand value versus export value.
For instance, u sell in naira, where will China get the naira they will use to buy d oil from? They will send goods to u.. the value of the goods they will send must be same as the value of the oil... Same thing happens whether d currency is $, pound or cowries... it is value for value!! U reduce usd demand and also reduce d supply at the same time... no effect

Nigeria still gets to receive forex anyway.

What happens is, we borrow the buying country Naira say under a tenured currency swap deal whereby Nigeria also gets the other country's equivalent currency (be it Rands, Rupees and even US Dollars). In turn, Nigeria can use it's own forex to fund, trade, imports and especially, investments from the other country.

Under such an arrangement, Nigeria and it's industries then may not have to pay in USD for some goods, equipment and services coming in from India, China or South Africa etc. This should reduce the demand for the US Dollar. Moreover, swap deals are also said to keep fixed exchange / interest rates on amounts swapped within agreed periods.
