Why Tinubu Can’t Separate Himself From Buhari’s Failures – Farotimi by Man102: 10:04am On Mar 09
Dele Farotimi, a Nigerian human rights activist, has said that President Bola Tinubu cannot separate himself from the poor performance of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that some ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet have continued to blame the current economic hardship in the country on Buhari’s failures.

But an interview with ChannelsTV on Friday night, Farotimi maintained that Tinubu marketed Buhari to millions of Nigerians as the best man for the job in 2015 and 2019.

The activist said that as national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu actively positioned Buhari to Nigerians in the buildup to the 2015 general elections and cannot separate himself from the failures of the Buhari government.

The activist said nothing has changed since May 2015 when the APC took over from ex-President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“The evidence of the last nine months is unimpeachable and cannot be denied. I know that the convenient excuse is that Buhari had damaged it (Nigeria) and he (Tinubu) is repairing it but who brought Buhari? Who was the chief marketer of Buhari in 2014/2015 when the ‘Change’ lie was sold to Nigerians?” he queried.

Farotimi lamented that nothing has been done by the Tinubu government to expect anything positive.

Instead, he said Nigerians should brace up for more challenges beyond the economic hardship occasioned by the petrol subsidy removal and unification of the foreign exchange windows.

Farotimi said the future of Nigeria appeared bleak saying, “I am going to be 56 years old this year and in my entire lifetime, we have never been far away from greatness than we are today. The future of Nigeria appears bleak than it has ever been in my entire lifetime.”

He blamed the rot in Nigeria to “each and every one of us” but “most importantly the “complete breakdown of the rule of law”.

According to him, Nigeria has copious laws in writing but there is no rule of law in our space as “the laws are observed more in breach”.

“Nigeria as it is today is not ruled by law but by impunity,” he said. “When you look beyond that, you begin to look at the institutions of state.”

Farotimi said for the nation to move forward, the principles of justice must be enthroned, starting with the judiciary, the legislature, and the executive.

I feel your pain.

But the truth remains that Tinubu cannot separate himself from Buhari. As much as both of them are failures, Tinubu is a bigger failure. In fact, Tinubu is failure personified.

Tinubu and the yorubas cannot absolve themselves. You brought buhari to Aso rock with your votes, now you blame buhari but refused to blame yourselves.

Hypocrite as always. Meanwhile, didnt Tinubu bodly claimed that he made Buhari president in Abeokuta rantings which your kind defended with gusto in all those his disastrous 8 years of being in government? So why the cursing?

Anyone who does not subscribe to the criminality of your drug lord and certificate forger of a entity is always tagged a wailers or Obidient. There are millions of Yoruba omoluabis who never voted the criminal and don't have any regret for it. So rest!

Indeed
Tinubu and Buhari are co-joined twins, joined at the heart.
Where one is mentioned, the other must also bear mentioning.
What is striking is the difference in personae. While one postures as spartan, uncompromising and frugal, the other radiates affluence, flamboyance and yielding attitudes.
How this two strange bedfellows managed each other, - and continue to- is something that should be studied.
However, both have learned to keep their base solid through same tactics. So while one preached an end to corruption and the other preached a return to opulence, their cheerleaders have remained the same to chorus whatever tune they sing no matter how discordant in tempo and rhyme.
The question is what is keeping the supporters attached to such divergent music from two players?

It is very foolish for the current govt to keep blaming Buhari for anything. They campaigned together with Buhari on the back of imaginary achievements

Dele is right on this... Tinubu's administration is currently blaming Buhari's but you guys sold him to the people and supported his policies. Even Rotimi Amaechi was championing the Niger Republic rail project...

No more PDP to blame, now its APC to APC 😒

Will the propagandist and his blind supporters agree ? Despite openly encouraging buhari to print more currency, he denied it early this week grin. Nobody should expect anything meaningful from his government. They're all liars. Only their supporters can fall for whatever he tells the nation

Anybody who is trying to separate Tinubu from Buhari government are the real enemies of Nigeria.

Well the same them who defended and praised Baba Buhari to high heaven are still the one defending and praising Baba Tinubu today.
