The president was represented by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, and he commended the company for its massive investment in the country.

GBFoods was founded 1937 as Gallina Blanca and is based in Barcelona, Spain. They are the owners of the Gino brand of tomato paste and Bama mayonnaise, among others.

The Kebbi factory has a processing capacity of 2,400 metric tonnes tomatoes per day, and 70% of its employees are women.

The world-class factory and its adjoining farm has drip irrigation and fertigation infrastructure, greenhouses, seed planting robots, incubation chambers, and a plethora of agricultural machinery.

It is the only fully backward integrated plant in the whole of the ECOWAS sub region, and its farm is the largest single tomato plantation in Nigeria. The company has also engaged about 5,344 outgrower farmers.

During the commissioning ceremony, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State thanked Spain for finding the state worthy of what he described as a “huge investment in the agricultural sector”.

The governor also promised that Kebbi state will remain hospitable to all investors, assuring that necessary enabling environment for businesses has been provided.

In his remarks, the Ambassador of Spain to Nigeria, Juan Ignacio Sell, reiterated the commitment of Spain to partner with Nigeria in various sectors of the economy despite the challenges in the country.
