Waivers should be granted to all federal healthcare institutions to replace health workers continuously as they leave. The japa syndrome isn't something that can be stopped as long as Nigeria remains a third world country. In fact, japa should even be encouraged as a way to improve our foreign exchange and transfer medical knowledge and techniques from foreign to local health institutions.

Government hospitals should have offices where qualified healthcare professionals and doctors can easily go and submit their CVs and be considered for available jobs without long protocols. Also, remuneration and work environment should be improved.

God forbid losing doctors, we didn't lose them because they are all alive taking care of fellow Nigerians who have also japa along with them

Honourable minister, you forget to mention the billions of naira Nigeria lost from medical tourism abroad by ruling elites, within that period.
Tinubu just returned recently from Paris, we don't know how much he spent from our money

Nigeria can benefit from reverse Japa. The reason people leave Naija is because of the comparative economic advantage of these foreign countries. We have the comparative cost advantage.

A Nigeria doctor spends about 3m naira to get his degree, his US counterpart spends about $300,000 to get same degree. They both find themselves in the US earning equal pay.

Our FG should put out a global advert urging foreigners to come study in Nigeria as it is cheaper, the stats are there. Would you rather be $300,000 in debt or get the equivalent degree for $20,000? by the time nobody wants to study in the US anymore, they will be the one looking to stop Japa.
I wish they could listen to you. All countries are trying to bring in people for money,Nigeria pursuing hers

The truth is 99.6% of graduates in Nigeria want to leave this country, just that they don't have the opportunity.
Nigeria is a failed nation.
For over 60yrs now nothing is working,
Electricity: very poor
Security: very very poor
Education: very very poor
Health sector: very very poor
Economy: very very poor.

We are giving the power and priviledge to elect who will lead us , but Nigerian decides with sentiments and hungers.

We failed to learn after suffering for 8yrs under APC administration , we are still where Buhari left the country.

Until we face reality and address, why insecurity, lack of electricity, increase unemployement still persists for over 16yrs.

The people destroyed this beautiful country called Nigeria, not Governments.

Our heros past decided and here we found ourselves,..

leaders of tommorow indeed.

That's the result of the tight admission process. Better increase quota by 200% . And give direct entry application a good chance to securing admission. Atleast if a medical school admits 300 students after 6 or 7 yrs 150 or 200 will make it out as a doctor. Compared to 75 to 100 they are admitting and only 50 will graduate.

Being a doctor in the US beats anywhere else. So paying more makes logical sense.

Is studying Medicine to become a Doctor still worth it in Nigeria?
Re: Japa: Nigeria Lost 16,000 Doctors In Five Years – Minister by VULCAN(m): 1:23pm On Mar 11
But Ngige that was in your shoes a few years ago boasted that it didn't matter if Doctors were leaving as we would train more.

APC tends to evaporate the brain cells of its members.

That is the disadvantage...

But lots of people grab d advantage... get trained and japa to enjoy the benefits...

But the poor citizens who need medical care suffer for it

If you say yes, why aren't Americans and British citizens, Australians and Canadians migrating to Nigeria to study it here since studying it here is cheap?

Or don't these foreign citizens like cheap education?

Why are they still taking student loans of $100K and more even as citizens just to go to Medical school in their home country?

Why do they happily go in debt just to study in their country?

They prefer UK because UK japa is very easy and straightforward... you earn more in Australia or US as a doctor... but it's very difficult to secure a work visa

Yes and the exam suits our style. I think they write PLAB. Medical curriculum of UK and Nigeria are the same, even duration of study.

If you study Medicine in Nigeria and you are a Doctor, please remove Canada from your mind.

Canada prefers their home trained Doctors.

Not foreign trained.

Except you also trained in a Western Country too (UK, USA, Australia).

If they sell Iphone 15 for 80K Online in Somali
Or they sell GLK 2022 Benz for 3.5m Online in Yemen or Afghanistan.
Both come with free shipment directly to your doorstep.

Will you buy?

Even if there is a program called
MBBS (Online Option) available in Nigeria, these American or British citizens would never opt for it.
