NGO trains 30 Community women leaders on social and gender based violence in Alimosho LGA


No fewer than 30 Community Women Leaders in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Tuesday, began a two-day training on Social and Gender Based Violence.

The training is being organised by Women’s Right and Health Project (WRAHP) in partnership with Canada Fund for Local Initiative (CFLI).

WRAHP’s Executive Director, Bose Ironsi, at opening ceremony, said that the training would focus on empowering the participants as advocates against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Alimosho LGA of the State.

According to her, Ironsi, the initiative aims to provide Community women leaders with the necessary tools, knowledge, and resources to effectively combat SGBV within their communities.

“SGBV remains a pervasive issue affecting individuals across all demographics, with women and girls disproportionately affected.

“Recognizing the critical role that community women leaders play in driving change at the grassroots level, WRAHP and CFLI have joined forces to equip these leaders with essential skills and strategies to address SGBV comprehensively.

“The training will encompass a wide range of topics, including understanding the root causes and manifestations of SGBV, providing support and resources to survivors, advocating for policy reforms, and fostering community-based interventions to prevent and respond to SGBV effectively” she said.

Ironsi emphasised the significance of empowering community women leaders in the fight against SGBV,

noting that community women leaders serveed as pivotal agents of change within their respective communities.





She said by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to address SGBV, we could catalyse transformative change and create safer and more resilient communities for all.





She said that the objectives of the training Programmes include but not limited to building awareness among community women leaders regarding the prevalence and impact of SGBV

It also aims to enhance participants’ capacity to identify, respond to, and prevent instances of SGBV within their communities among others.

WRAHP was renowned for its unwavering commitment to advancing women’s rights and promoting community health, continues to spearhead innovative initiatives aimed at addressing pressing social issues and fostering sustainable change.
