No one is going to pay #907k minimum wage in Nigeria. Not even in the next 35 years.

Imagine the ripple effects. Inflation will take off like a rocket launched by Spacex.

Very true. But have you seen the rise in budgetary allocation to the NASS since 1999 compared to the rise in minimum wage within the same period? To us is why any Individual must be very daft to support any party or politician in this country.

The only realistic minimum wage is between N45,000-N60,000 even the present minimum wage some states are finding difficult to pay it.

I keep asking myself what Nigeria is doing with both senate and HoR, coupled with the numerous state assemblies. Nigeria is set up for doom, it was never made to succeed.
The voodoo economist will come out now and be shouting inflation as if only the money for the masses will always cause inflation

As long as Nigeria and Nigerians remain satisfied with importation of finished goods, corruption will never end.
Because people's intellect is not being engaged.
When you start manufacturing goods to export and employing workers to work in such facilities,
that is when people's intellect will be engaged and they stop thinking about bad things and instead about good productive things.
Sorry O, but this corruption will remain permanent, the way Nigeria is.

The labour president and his exco know the government is incapable of paying that amount but they just want to make things difficult for the present administration. If Obi had been the president they would have requested for 40k and let him be .
When government pays 900k to messengers and drivers permanent secretaries salary will become 2m. Then inflation sets In. Labour leaders are funny people .

This is actually less than $600. Many people will argue that we don't spend dollars in Nigeria but the car you drive or the cab/bus you enter were actually bought with dollars. Many things like building materials and even foods are bought with dollars, so in essence, N907,000 may not be realistic to ask for but in reality, every sensible person knows that it is actually A MINIMUM WAGE!

What is the GDP per capita of Nigeria?
About 2000USD

Does Proposing a 600USD monthly minimum wage for a country with a 2000USD GDP per capita (more than 1/4 the GDP per capita) sound Economically normal? Bearing in mind a population of well over 200,000,000...

My focus would rather be fixed on increasing the GDP per capita, not the minimum wage.

Because increasing the minimum wage to for example 600USD as you proposed, will drive Nigeria towards acute poverty.

Countries that currently set 600USD as a minimum wage have an average GDP per capita at 9500USD for example Turkey.

There should be balance when running an economy not sentiment.

Nigeria is where its at today because things were done without considering the balance/imbalance.

600USD as a minimum wage in Nigeria with the current GDP per capita at 2000USD is absolutely ill advised.

DIVINEEVIDENCE:
Obviously these clowns don't even understand basic Economics.

If an average worker earns ₦907k, a bag of rice would be sold at around ₦800k- ₦1 million, Toyota Corolla toks would jump to around ₦15 million Naira.

Now, imagine that a loaf of bread used to sell for GhC 500 and ₦100; if we pump more Naira into our economy with the currency of Ghana remaining constant; that same loaf of bread might jump to ₦2, 500 while Ghanaians who didn't experience a currency disturbance would still buy that same loaf at GhC 500.

In other words, whereas GhC500 used to be equal to ₦100, it would now be economically equal to ₦2, 500.

These guys think they'll be able to afford commodities if they're given more cash, not knowing that the economy is not only run by salary earners.

It's only a matter of time and they would start buying same commodities at higher prices, with no increase in value.

Government should simply tighten looting loopholes, create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and increase local production.

This is the only way to make workers comfortable in the long run and still maintain a robust economy.

Organised labour matter too dey tire me...
how does increase in minimum wage result in inflation you go school at all grin
