*Types of Stroke.*


There are three types of stroke. They are;
*Ischemic stroke This is similar to heart attack, except it occurs in the blood vessels of the brain. Clots can form either in the brain's blood vessels, in blood vessels leading to the brain, or even blood vessels elsewhere in the blood which then travel to the brain. These clots block blood flow to the brain's cells.
Ischemic stroke can also occur when too much plaque (fatty deposit and cholesterol) clogs the brain's blood vessels. About 80 % of all strokes are of this nature.
*Hemorrhagic stroke This occur when a blood vessel in the brain breaks or ruptures.
The result is blood seeping into the blood tissue, causing damage to brain cells. The most common causes of hemorrhagic stroke are high blood pressure and brain aneurysms. An aneurysm is a weakness of thinness in the blood vessel Wall.

*Transient Ischemic stroke attack*(ITA).This occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is inadequate for a brief period of time. Normal blood flow resumes after amount of time, and the symptoms resolve without treatment.

*Paralysis or loss of muscle movement One may become paralyzed on one side of the body, or lose control of certain muscles, such as those on one side of the face or one arm.

*Difficulty talking or swallowing A stroke might affect body of the muscles in the mouth and throat, making it difficult for one to talk clearly, swallow or eat. A stroke patient also may have difficulty with language, including speaking or understanding speech, reading, or writing.

*Memory loss or thinking difficulties Many people who have had strokes experience some memory loss. Others may have difficulty thinking, reasoning, making judgement and understanding concept.

*Emotional problems:-

People who have had strokes may have more difficulty controlling their emotions, or they may develop depression.
*Pain Pain, numbness or other unusual sensations may occur in the parts of the body affected by stroke. For example, if a stroke causes you to lose feeling in the left arm, you may develop an uncomfortable tingling sensation in that arm.
*Change in behaviour and self-care ability People who have had strokes may become more withdrawn. They may need help with grooming and daily chores.

*When to see a doctor*

Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any signs or Symptoms of a stroke, even if they seem to come and go, or they disappear completely. Consult a doctor if you notice the following signs on your body:
*Face Noticing or experiencing dropping face
*Arms One arm drifting downward or unable to rise .
*Speech Difficulty or unable to repeat a simple phrase, or experiencing strange slurred speech.
Chronic severe headache mostly on one side of the head and severe pains accompanied by numbness.
