The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, has revealed that most of those allegedly involved in the recent bomb attacks in Borno and Yobe had been arrested. On November 4, multiple bomb blasts occurred in two cities in Yobe State; Damaturu and Potiskum, and in Maiduguri, Borno State. Over 150 lives were allegedly lost in the incident, responsibility for which was claimed by Islamist sect, Boko Haram.
“The threat to installations and institutions of government have been on for quite some time, but the intelligence community has done a tremendous job as culprits have either been arrested or killed,” The Chief of Army Staff said.
Ihejirika, who described terrorism as a complex problem that required special measures to tackle, declined to reveal the number of suspects arrested or killed during the confrontation with security agents. Pointing out that it was the responsibility of all the security bodies to secure the nation’s territorial borders, he said there was the need for increased collaborative effort between the military, the Nigerian Immigration Service and Nigerian Customs Service.
He attributed the scale of violence in the country to the numerous social, economic and political issues that needed the attention of everyone to be overcome.
“The military is however playing its role of dealing with the situation and I assure you we are going to overcome it soon,”Ihejirika said.
