We have a plan to rehabilitate convicted internet fraudsters with lesser sentences. The plan is to work with the correctional centre to make them useful and more productive in society.

Arrest their parent and guardian the madness will go down

True talk from the chairman, I know someone denied a US migrant visa to join their US based spouse because of a Efcc arrest a decade earlier.

Another looting format.

I think rehabilitation does not work in Nigeria because corruption stops the rehabilitation from taking place in the prisons or centres. I don't know any ex convict but I hear ex convicts become worse after leaving prisons. It is claimed that Nigerian prisons are more corrupt and more dangerous than the outside.

All you said here is not true.
Rehabilitation still works, I have seen criminals rehabilitated by Correctional Service deciding with the help of counselling deciding to leave the affluence of crime and agony of losing the family and their ill-gotten wealth to embracing the modest life of earning legitimately and setting up shops and businesses learnt in Prisons and live a stable crime free life and moved on to getting married and have a family. Some got their degree from prisons, did waec and neco, learnt tailoring, shoe making, some learn bread making, as some centers bakes bread now, carpentry, soap making etc.

Some have gone on to become Pastors, Muslim clerics, plumbers etc.

The Prison service is delivering in their mandate but needs the supports of the society to achieve more as the funds are not really there to make these giants stride and increase he percentage of fully rehabilitated inmates. Some of these inmates learns the trade but have no funds to establish, the society and government can Collaborate in this area. As government alone cannot do it.

Another angle to the problem of rehabilitation is the mind of the criminals, some people of them just can't get out of it, they can only leave crime when they die. Also, proper classification of prison is another problem, the hardened criminal should not be placed in same cell with those that are not hardened and multiple offenders, the first time offenders. Hence government need to build more centers or do an in facility classification by building different blocks and limit interactions.

Well, corruption is everywhere in this country, and there is urgent need to tackle it using technology and better treatment of workers, but to say Prison is more corrupt than the outside society is a farce and not a statement of fact.

Efcc shouldn't waste their time. Adults don't change. The best solution is to give them jobs in ICT sector.
It's just like saying you want to rehabilitate corrupt politicians, have anyone seen a repented politician?

How much would you have to offer to these motherbleeping lowlifes to motivate them to start making honest living?

Since they rehabilitate mass killers and sucide bombers,i see no reason why fraudsters shouldn't be.

Very valid point.

They can be paid almost the equivalent to their counterparts in foreign countries.
The only solution is to programme the toddlers to do the right things and the government should create a conducive environment for business to grow.

Their COUNTERPARTS in foreign countries (or at least in the west) don't get paid. They get long prison sentences (well deserved). What these 419 idiots have to contribute to the society that you would pay for?

I was only referring to ICT guys in foreign countries and not their criminals.
The best way is to recruit the first set of those Yahoo guys to work in ICT sector.
Pay them well and they will sign an undertaking not to involve in such crimes. They can then use them to catch others who will then be used as an example. But before then, the government will give them time to repent from their scamming ways before going full force on them.

What you say is quite reasonable. However, how well did it work with paying Niger Delta militants? How often they demand for more money or they will go back to being militants?

Though, those in-charge of making sure these kind of programmes work well are not sincere and are highly corrupt.
That's why these schemes usually fail.

Exactly, that is one of the problems. They will claim they have spent N10bn to rehabilitate five 419ers
