what has all the above got to do with the question I asked?

why was the construction allowed to continue without building approval?

For clarity.

At what stage of construction; clearing, fencing, foundation, filling, decking, roofing or finishing ? Which stage of construction do you think the build should have been stopped?

at what stage are the buildings being demolished right now?

why was the construction allowed to continue without building approval?

The buildings were not allowed to continue, they criminally continued. Building inspectors cannot be everywhere. Many many buildings are being stopped before completion. Some during completion and others after completion.

Do the police in the West allow terrorists to strike and criminals to commit offences?

To build in Lagos these days, you just have to shine your eyes very well. I pity those traders along Ojo - Alaba axis. They will always wants to get land close to their businesses to build. They are usually the culprits and casualties in most demolitions along that axis.

Heard from a reliable source. Lots of houses in Abule Osun , alakija , Abule ado down to okoko will be demolished....

some nigerians are not just stupid but selfish. why would you buy a land next to canal or drainage ?
or even build close to one ??

Most traders extends their search for vacant plots to those areas you mentioned. Most of them live along those axis you mentioned. I know because lots of my town's people ply their trades along that corridor and lives there. Most are rich and in search of empty plots to build their houses. You won't tell them to come to Epe, Ikorodu or Ajah to buy land or areas far from their businesses. How will they commute to their places of business? My advice for them is to always get authentic land and confirm same from Alausa, using well-known land lawyers instead of relying on Omoniles.

there was free movement in that community before from ojota to Maryland
before them use structures block everywhere. Where there should have been a link road or bridge to serve d 2 communities

This is probably garden valley, Ogudu GRA area

But why will someone build on canal 🤔
it extends to ojota end. There was a foot bridge linking ojota and Maryland communities on that flank in the 90s but people scrambled and barricaded both ends with houses.
