A High Court sitting in Lokoja, Kogi State, has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from infringing on the fundamental human rights of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, former Kogi State Governor.

In a two hour judgment delivered on Wednesday, at the High Court 4 and presided over by Hon. Justice I.A Jamil, in suit no HCL/68/M/2020, the court restrained the EFCC from arresting, detaining and prosecuting the applicant except as authorised by the Court.

This is a definite order following the earlier interim injunction given.

The judgment followed the suit brought before the court by Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the applicant, seeking to enforce his fundamental rights against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The Court equally restrained the respondents from continuing to persecute the Applicant.

Earlier in the judgement, the Court dismissed the issue of jurisdiction as challenged by the EFCC.

The Applicant’s Counsel SA Abbas and MS Yusuf, described the judgment as landmark while the defendant Counsel, T.U Odima and Patrick O. Jibril also aligned themselves to the judgment, describing it as thorough.

Imagine what our court has turned to.. Someone that is supposed to be investigated for embezzling #84bn ran to the court to avoid being investigated..
Which politician dare try this during the military era?
Our politicians are just using the courts to stifle the progress of this country.

Over to those shouting EFCC is Jobless,

The fight against corruption must be total, no hiding place shall be allowed for criminals,

Yahaya Bello will be Prosecuted and convicted without fail, that Kangaroo Judgement bought in Lokoja will be vacated. That Judge who gave this Judgement will be Investigated, if found culpable findings of the investigation will be forwarded to National Judicial Council

why do you think the EFCC finds it very difficult to prosecute corrupt politicians.. it is because of Judges like this.. In Nigeria, the Judiciary which is supposed to be an independent entity remains stooges of the Executives at the Federal and State Level.. they are deliberately starved of funds so they can always go cap-in-hand to beg the Executive.. and do their biddings.

That is why you see judgement like this without justice..

Like Obi Cubana said.. money na water.

EFCC should be allowed to do it's mandated job. The ruling party must understand that Nigerians are smarter now. No one is above the law.

Pay as you go court. Politicians now use court to stop the law from prosecuting them. The court is now bought at a price by politicians. The law now only applies to the masses. How long will this continue in this country?

Nigerian judiciary lacks shame,

Someone on a live radio programme today said "he rather goes to the herbalist than approach Nigerian courts for solutions to his problem"

Standard template by state governments/governors.
Anytime they or their allies are being investigated or their allies about to be arrested and prisecuted, they run to their state courts and procure kangaroo judgements.
Just that I know all these are shadow dressings by the EFCC because after all the noise and even subsequent arrest of Bello, nothing meaningful will come out from the case they have against him.
I always liked the Obasanjo template, get these shitty governors impeached and their corrupt allies hounded.

I could imagine the level at which other countries are mocking Nigeria, some time I Wonder of Nigeria have different types of law, how can a court in Abuja judge different thing from Court in Lagos judge different thing in one particular case does it mean that lawyer don't know what they're doing or they judge base on the highest bidder and not based on the Constitution and law of the country
Re: Yahaya Bello: Court Restrains EFCC From Arresting ex-Kogi Governor by ovie8200: 7:48pm On Apr 17
Why are Nigeria's courts so corrupt? No court should restrict Police and others from arresting individuals and restricting from arrest for what. He needs to go and prove innocent. The court in Nigeria is why the country is so messed up interfering. This is why the rich keep abusing the laws because they know they will go to court and get an order not to be arrested.
