Two Premier League football players have been arrested in connection with a reported rape.

According to Mail Online, both players, who are from the same club, were taken into custody over the weekend.

One of the players, aged 19, was first spoken to by the police at the club's stadium on suspicion of assault and aiding and abetting a rape. He was then arrested after leaving the stadium and held overnight for questioning.

The second player, also 19, was arrested the following day and questioned about suspicions of rape.

Both players have been released on bail while the investigation continues.

The incident allegedly occurred on a Friday night, and the police were contacted by the alleged victim a few hours later.

A police spokesperson told The Sun that both men were arrested, one for assault and aiding and abetting a rape, and the other for rape, and both were later released on bail.

A source mentioned to The Sun that police spoke to one of the players in a private room at the stadium before he was arrested later that night.

The football club involved has stated that they will not comment further as the matter is now being handled by the police.

This is not the first time the Premier League has seen such an investigation. In October 2022, Mason Greenwood of Manchester United was charged with attempted rape and other offenses, but the case was dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew. Greenwood has denied all charges and was later loaned out to Getafe following an internal investigation by the club.
