Is Ola Olukoyede Qualified To Be EFCC Chairman? by AnonPoet: 6:35am On Apr 28
Questions have arisen regarding the qualifications of Ola Olukoyede to hold the position of Chairman at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to the stipulated requirements in the establishment of the EFCC, the Chairman must be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent, and possess not less than 15 years cognate experience.

Investigations have revealed that Olukoyede, born on October 14, 1969, did not meet these prerequisites before his appointment. Despite this, he assumed the role of Executive Chairman of the EFCC, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 12, 2023.

Before his tenure as EFCC Chairman, Olukoyede worked as a lawyer at a firm owned by former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo. He also served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman (2016–2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018–2023). His nomination as Secretary to the EFCC in 2018 was made by the then-President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

During the announcement of Olukoyede's appointment, it was stated that he possessed 22 years of regulatory compliance consulting, fraud management, and business intelligence experience. However, questions persist regarding whether this experience aligns with the specific requirements outlined for the EFCC Chairman.

The requirements as contained in part 1 section 2 of the establishment reads, ""The Commission shall consist of the following members

(a) a chairman, who shall -
(i) be the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the Commission.
(ii) be a serving or retired member of any government security or law enforcement agency not below the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police or equivalent; and
(iii) Possess not less than 15 years cognate experience."

Given these revelations, concerns have been raised about Olukoyede's suitability for the role, with some arguing that he lacks the necessary experience and competency required for such a critical position in combating economic and financial crimes.

It is now the suitability and qualifications of Olukoyede that are now to be questioned because he is going after someone?

Some hungry lawyers, civil society groups and hatchet men have been protesting and defending the former governor of Kogi State since Olukoyede's outburst. I strongly advise Olukoyede to investigate the bank accounts of the arrowheads and put a lien on them. A lot of nonsense has gone on for far too long and must be arrested.

Instead of looking to undermine the EFCC boss, let the former Kogi governor report himself and clear himself. By these antics, he is spoling his name and may not amount to anything politically again.

80 billion naira allegedly mismanaged is not small money.

For the first time since Nuhu Ribadu, we see an energized EFCC. During the last administration, EFCC was almost invisible. So guess what: Olukoyede is more than qualified and those of us who would not support corruption even if carried out by our own father are standing with Olukoyede.

OP, try and do the same. How would you feel when you or your family members are in need of healthcare and someone who is a custodian of your money lies to you that the money is not available, only for him to deposit school fees 15 years in advance for his children from your money and you lose a loved one who could not assess basic medicare?

That is how corruption kills the defenders of corruption.

Change your ways.

Money stolen by Bello is now being deployed to fight the EFCc chairman, paying brown envelope journalist to fight for the thief Bello. We will see who wins. In a sane society Kogi people should have trooped out looking to lynch Bello but they appeared conquered. Even what Ododo did should have led to a state of emergency declaration and his removal from office for obstruction of justice.

He's the worst EFCC chairman. Immediate past governors like Ikpeazu, Otom, and those rogues from the northern sides that stole the nation dry are all free while he's just trying to use Bello to be in the news like he's in charge.

How can the nation be like this, with every infrastructure gone and governors and ministers left after eight years and no case against them?

How can somebody like Wike not be probed when Rivers state got nothing to show with all the Trillions it made for eight years?

I was not happy seeing this man at Koinonia cos this guys may end up corrupting Apostle Selman with their pretense.

Ordinarily, the EFCC ought to be the financial investigation unit of the Nigerian police. Hence, the requirement that its chairman shall be a serving or retired police officer.

Given how corrupt the Nigerian police is, that Act should be amended to allow incorruptible people from the private sector chair that commission.

To answer the question, laws are meant for humans and if we go by the act establishing the EFCC, Olukoyede is not qualified to chair the commission.

However, he's now the boss and has the opportunity to get the presidency to amend the EFCC Act through the legislature. Also, EFCC should be proactive in their approach, not always reactive. This should be amended through the national assembly too.

If this man start probing Nigeria Judges then I will take him serious cos the corruption in that sector is disgusting.

When a man got no job, he start arresting those that sprayed naira and people like Bobrisky at the dictate of Verydarkman. I see an EFCC chairman that does things at the dictate of those he's meant to probe.

Abia state former governor awarded non existent airport and paid and this man still got a job to do?

Tinubus appointment are the worst since the creation of Nigeria .

Presidential appointment overrides any existing guidelines for the position

When it comes to govt appointments, ex military man can become head of immigration
