CBN Takes Down Report On Fresh N3.8tn From Ways & Means Loans

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) provided a fresh loan of N3.8 trillion in Ways and Means to the federal government during the second half of 2023.

According to figure rose to N8.2 trillion in December from N4.4 trillion at the end of June 2023,

According to CBN data for the fourth quarter of 2023 the total, ways and means granted to the federal government increased to N8.2 trillion by December 2023, up from N4.4 trillion which it was at the end of June 2023, BusinessDay reports.

However, LEADERSHIP checks reveal that the said report, which was uploaded on the CBN website on April 19, 2024 has been taken down as efforts to download the report returned with a message that the report can not be found.

As at May 2023 when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over the steering of the country, total Ways and Means balances stood at N26.95 trillion, however, these balances were incorporated into the federal government’s domestic debt profile.

By the end of June 2023, the balance had decreased to N4.36 trillion, possibly indicating a transfer of funds to the Debt Management Office. Subsequently, starting from July 2023, the balances consistently grew each month: reaching N4.5 trillion in July, N5.1 trillion in August, surpassing the N5.1 trillion mark for the first time.

Blaze14k:
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has removed the data which provided a fresh loan of N3.8 trillion in Ways and Means to the federal government from its website. Naija News earlier reported that the Tinubu government took the loan during the second half of 2023

This is according to provisional data published in the latest statistics bulletin for the fourth quarter of the year recently released by the apex bank.

This is despite the claim by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, that the Tinubu government had not borrowed money from the CBN.

The CBN’s provisional data also showed that the total figure rose from N4.4 trillion at the end of June 2023, meaning that the cumulative Ways and Means balances due by the government grew to N8.2 trillion as of December 2023.

This publication understands that total Ways and Means balances as of May 2023 when the Tinubu administration took over N26.95 trillion. However the balances were securitised and included as part of the federal government’s domestic debt profile.

A breakdown of the data shows that the balance at the end of June 2023 was N4.36 trillion, indicating that the prior month’s balances may have been moved to the Debt Management Office (DMO).

From July 2023, the balances increased every month, first to N4.5 trillion in July, then N5.1 trillion in August, crossing the N5.1 trillion mark for the first time.

By September, the total was N6.4 trillion, representing the single largest additional borrowing for a month with about N1.3 trillion. It then climbed to N7.2 trillion in October before rising marginally to N7.6 trillion in November

At the end of the year, in December, the total hit N8.21 trillion, suggesting that Ways and Means increased by 88 per cent in six months.

However, a check by Naija News shows that the data which was uploaded on the CBN website on April 19, 2024, has been taken down as efforts to download the report returned with a message that the report can not be found.

I'm still surprised some Tinubu supporters don't know the kind of man they are supporting.....

When I said this about Tinubu and Peter Obi during the campaign some of them felt I was just being biased, I still tell them Tinubu was the worst candidate during the election, I don't know how they see this man...

sad

Borrowing is never going to stop, because the alternatives is government using the tax weapon..ie taxing the majority that do not pay tax to federal and state government...which is damne unpopular, and would cause issues

OIl money is not enough either. We had a sustained period of low oil prices from 2014 to 21, then a short period of high prices, then low oil prices again. Nigeria needs oil above 100 dollars at least.

The low oil meant our debt rose due to the resultant drop in income. That means more loans.

If the current government had not partially removed subsides, it would have been much worse...because by 2022, we were paying almost all our revenue on debt servicing.

SO, ways and means. And the harsh fact is, we do have a corruption and poor accountability problem, but...hereis the scary thing, should we fix that...and we need to fix it, it won't improve our income.

And if you think Obi would have saved the day, sorry. He would have done exactly the same thing. As would have atiku....because Nigerian politicans don't want to tell people there isn't enough money. Which is why apc is borrowing, and why Buhari also borrowed before tinubu. They don't want to be honest, and tell Nigerians there is no money, and institute things like total removal of subsides, a programm of industrialization, making states earn their money, and really fighting corruption...because it is much easier to spend more money and take more loans.

Nigeria has a problem, and really it is refusal to face reality.

cool

I will always tell you this for free....

APC has absolutely no business in government.

There sole aim is to destroy Nigeria while using cheap propaganda to deceive their empty-handed gullible followers.

NB... To support apc, you must first suspend your sense of reasoning, bury your conscience, be criminally minded, lie with a straight face at all times, support every evil agenda and most importantly, be very very st00p!d.

Don't believe everything you read from these mushroom newspapers. These are the same ones blaming WAEC for removing a post that claimed Anambra had the top scores in WAEC. The fact is that WAEC never said such a thing. It was all made up by the usual fake newsmakers.

By the time CBN comes out to debunk this story, they will not carry that, or some low IQ mumus will be saying "There is no smoke without fire" rubbish instead of taking the fake news site to the task.

This was the same thing the Buhari government did.. keep everyone in the dark, then let them know the state of things at the tail end of the tenure..

Scam Government 🤔🤔

When you hear of corruption in government,
it's not a one-man thing, they all collabo and help each other like a cartel or cult group.. the way the CBN is helping and covering up right now🤔🤔

The irony of it all is that this same people are putting Emefiele in Jail for doing exactly these same things..

Despite all the monies they claim to be making, they are still borrowing more

Oh oh!

Alas, it was on their very own website that this is a fresh loan, but a certain nairalander called SEUNMSG who has a reputation for not knowing his right from his left, said it was accrued interest.

What's more befuddling is he did so with no proof whatsoever, and no mention of the other relevant parameters ie.
the interest rate, the total sum, the tenor..that way at least even if he no get proof, we fit do simple calculations to know wassup.
