The naira depreciated by N79.88 against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market.

FMDQ data showed that the naira closed at N1,419.11 per US dollar on Monday, compared to N1,339.23 last Friday.

This represents a 5.6 per cent depreciation against the dollar compared to N1339.23 on Friday.

Meanwhile, the naira dropped to N1,280 per dollar at the parallel market section on Monday, compared to N1,300 during the weekend.

The development showed that the gap between the official and parallel markets had increased by N139 per dollar.

Bureau De Change operators had earlier revealed plans to harmonise the retail end of the foreign exchange market as a solution to the recent naira appreciation.

For months, the naira appreciated until recent weeks, when it started recording depreciation against the dollar. Experts had blamed naira speculators, Binance, and other cryptocurrency platforms for the recent woes of Nigeria’s currency.

Why do our economic mangers attached much value on dollars in this country when we know that it's not our official currency?

Who are those shouting last week that the naira was appreciating? Poor economic policies don't get solved by borrowing billions of dollars and using same to subsidize the naira.

We are done with Binance and other crypto exchangers. This week blame is OPay and Moniepoint.
By next week, we will blame DSTV followed by NTA
Then by June, they will be blaming the air we breathe him.
Set of incompetence parading as economy team.
They leave the root of the problem and start tackling innocent companies.

The incompetence of the Tilumbu led FG stinks to the high heavens angry

Is it Binance that is causing this depreciation now?

They are looking for the next person to blame, now it is fintech banks like opay and moniepoint

Stop chasing shadows and move the country from consumption to production, no they won't but will blame everyone for their daftness

omo wetin be all this rubbish obsession with Tinubu government and Naira this and that? does this guy think that brining down the dollar rate against the naira will count as an acheievement? it is useless when naira appreciates and you now have more money to buy more dollars to do more importation thereby, weakening the currency again. I still dont get, is this not counter productive? until you start producing, exporting and selling more items in Naira, then and only then will the currency and economy be strong. is this hard for una to understand? if you cannot do it yourself and wish that nigerians help you, just fix electricity sector, fix our roads and build a steel mill, watch every other thing put itself in order.
