Fg To Build New Gas Pipelines For Power! by Relax101(m): 1:11am On Nov 22, 2011 |
LAGOS — The Federal Government said it will build new gas pipelines that will feed the power plants in the country, to end the constant cut of gas supply to the plants. Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, who disclosed this in Lagos, Friday, said the modalities for the laying of the new pipelines were being worked out with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, in line with government’s efforts to ensure increase in electricity generation in the country. The minister regretted that many of the power plants built under the National Integrated Power Supply, NIPP, were being starved of gas, which accounts for their low outputs. He said: “The issue of gas is something we have discussed seriously with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and we have agreed to build a second pipeline to transport gas to these NIPP plants.” He said gas challenges had affected the firing of the Olorunshogo Plant 1 and 2, where some of the units are down due to gas shortages. When pointed out that government could have dedicated gas, as with the refineries which have dedicated crude oil, he argued that supply was not the only issue affecting the plants, as there were others relating to infrastructure availability. He said: “The whole issue is not only about supply, there are several other issues like the availability of gas. Yes, we have gas in the ground, but we don’t have enough for domestic needs due to infrastructure challenges. Sometimes we don’t have enough gas gathering facilities, other times we don’t have enough storage facilities, and these infrastructures re very expensive. “Also, there is the bigger issue of vandalism, even when the gas is available, it is a problem to transport them because the pipelines have been vandalised. Currently, we are losing about 80 million standard cubic feet of gas per day as a result of pipeline vandalism.” Against this backdrop, Nnaji disclosed that government was equally exploring alternative sources of power like reinitiating the use of coal for power, while in Katsina there is already 10 Megawatts, MW, wind farm as well as various solar projects scattered around the country. He said that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, is currently developing tariff structures for them, as they are not captured under existing structure. He, however, warned that because these alternatives come in small quantities, they cannot be stable, and would be used to augmen http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/fg-to-build-new-gas-pipelines-for-power/ |

August 23, 2011 ----- FG to construct new gas pipeline network Looks a bit like recycled news. Let's please wait for news that the pipelines are completed to commend this time around . . . |

So they are still working on the modalities. Hopefully they will agree on the modalities before 2015 and work will commence by 2020. |

Nigerians are no longer interested in promises. Let them go ahead and keep a fraction of all the promises they have made already. |

^ So damn right. Why always white elephant projects? What happened to PAWA 774? Complaining of the issue of vandalism but still want to build more pipelines. |

Why wasn't d ready availabilty of gas part of d planning in d building of this gas dependent power plants.Even if dis gas pipelines are eventually built(whc I doubt wi happen ianytime soon),sth else wi come up,like it being blocked by landowners over non payment of land rights.D problm is one of poor planning traceable to corruption, somebody or people are always looking for ways to get rich frm these projects, most times ending up wt job not being done or poorly executed. |

This is a very commendable effort. It has been a tough journey to even get adequate gas supply for the vastly improved power generation Nigerians are now witnessing, all our gas had been marked for foreign allocations until 2016 by past governments. GEJ is doing wonderfully to source and supply gas for the plants to run. Enough cannot be said about the person of Barth Nnaji who has gone a long way to making the formerly prostrate power sector rise and begin working. It will take time, but with each step, we get closer to 24/7 electricity supply. Fresh Air!!! |

Build the thermal stations close to source of gas That way we will be face wt only problem of transmission No one shd talk of difficult terrain, bc Eket & co hv nice topography We are tired of planning without proper details |

^^^^^ Try been objective for crying out loud! When it suits you say GEJ was part of Yar Adua government, and when your hormonal imbalances kicks in, your resort that GEJ is trying to take credit for Yar Adua project. Where exactly do you stand? In any case, it's about finishing the job, not who initiated it. If Yar Adua hadn't reversed and frustrated most of Obj power initiatives, who knows where we would have been now power-wise? Multitude of abandoned project litters the nation just because of who-takes-the-credit myopia. Do Nigerians really care about that? So I see no problem if GEJ takes credit for completing the project. Afterall he could have initiated a probe panel to frustrate it, or simply starve it of fund and started another in Bayelsa just like your beloved Yar Adua did. |

@PointB, good talk dear Most ppl just open mouth & roll out rubbish. Continuity is necessary in governance Emphasis shd not be on who started it bc its not v necessary Rather we shd pile praises on who delivers GEJ has been trying to complete most worthwhile projects He is equally trying hands on laying good foundations for new ones Most people are unable to decipher the upbeat bc of the pit we are all in If GEJ gets needed cooperation he will make reasonable input There are ares he needs reverse gear anyway, and such is expected in life |

Re: Fg To Build New Gas Pipelines For Power! by Kobojunkie: 5:18pm On Nov 24, 2011 |
nsiadi: Look up the meaning of the word CONTINUITY, especially as applies to Government, because it suggests an ACTIVE succession, a flow of activity at least. There has been no mention of any actual interaction between the Jonathan Administration and the Katsina Wind Project. All you need do is investigate the project -- information is available online on said project. Please, stop playing the zombie, and try to actually engage in finding information (much of which is now available for you to investigate for yourself). to educate yourself, rather than these desperate attempts at finding reasons to rationalize the irrational claims. At least make sure your praise is worth more than that of the millions of other zombies out there in Nigeria land. Jonathan Goodluck campaigned the last election by pretending it was possible to remove himself from the administration before his(something any rational being would have known to be impossible to do), and he was able to convince millions of Nigerians that the irrational was possible --he won the election that way. Since his re-election is based on his not being part of the last administration, it then follows that he cannot claim the works of the last administration as part of his achievement, UNLESS, he actually contributes DIRECTLY to the successful completion of said projects. (This is not science). |

The difference is clear Other people`s comments amplify this The best cure for delusion is from within |
Re: Fg To Build New Gas Pipelines For Power! by Kobojunkie: 8:17pm On Nov 24, 2011 |
nsiadi: You are right!!! The deluded minds usually depend so much on OTHER people's comments -- They tend to need the approval of others in helping to AMPLIFY/and give them justification for their their deep-seated delusions On the other-hand, there are those less dependent on other people's approval. These are people who look out for the facts in order to ensure that whatever there delusion they are accused of living, there is at least FACTUAL DATA and INFORMATION to support it's existence or none. Some would even say this group of people are more in touch with reality than the former. |

Kobojunkie: Two of Jonathan's campaign speeches. 1. "About eight months ago fate beckoned on me to take up the mantle of leadership from our late leader, President Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua and to honour his memory by striving to sustain the dreams that we all shared with him for a vibrant Peoples Democratic Party and a prosperous and peaceful nation". 2. "The late President Yar'Adua and I shared great dreams for our country. We toiled together to realize those dreams in order to justify the confidence Nigerians reposed in us. Together we swore to execute a joint mandate and today I come before you to make a pronouncement based on that undertaking." You have to take a break from this forum. |
