She said home farming would also help people allay the fears of attack by herdsmen by deserting the farms which led to high cost of foods.

So, instead of the useless government to clear the forest of these miscreants and protect the people on their farms. They allowed the urchins take over the forest, denied the people of protection they promised during elections, and resorted to this sham? Gardening is NOT Farming.

wow Kudos to them . its a very welcoming idea to be introduced to other states to follow. If we can cultivate the idea of producing at least one crop we would have in abundance and become self sufficient as a country.

Anyway, Agriculture is life.

It is indeed a good initiative if they pull through with the extension officers actively engaging the people and teaching them right. Would it make food cheaper, not really nonetheless, for those who choose to follow the lead, it will reduce their total expense of food which in turn allows money to be spent on other things.

The solution to food security in the country is not everyone doing mini-farming in sacks and buckets. That is ridiculous, particularly when we have a lot of arable land that Fulani marauders and bandits have prevented people from farming.

The solution is having enough large scale farmers and a booming farming industry in the middle belt and all those areas with arable land without the fears of insecurity, bandits and Fulani marauders. The Government should ban open grazing to reduce Fulani cattle destroying crops and increase security to prevent bandits and kidnappers from discouraging farmers.

The Government should then provide funding, mechanization and other farming support and interventions to real farmers and not "CBN Farmers" or "Briefcase Farmers" that collect billions under the guise of farming in collusion with the managers of the Government Interventions.

That in my opinion is the way to go and not these subsistence farming kits. Unfortunately the Government appears not to have the moral strength to ban open grazing and address the security issues.

Great idea.

So you do not need a big land. You can comfortably grow yams, onions, pepper, tomatoes, etc at the back of your home. You can sustain your home with some and if there are extras, you can sell and make some money. Less people to farms. Less encounter with herdsmen. No security fear. More food at home. More money saved.

Some people grow out fish in their homes. Some snails and for some it is chicken. They save a lot and have more to eat.

Good concept. Hopefully it can be extended nationwide by all.

And for how long will your home grown food supply sustain you in a year? Good luck depending on that. You can read the Cuba case study for more insight on the topic.

Whatever little you can grow will help our a great deal. Yams presently sell for 6K each in some cases. Yams from the areas called “Onitsha yam” will sell at over 2k this year, at the farm gate. The same will go for Abuja and Minna yams. Even though marginally lesser, would be priced high. Tomatoes and pepper, home grown can help out too.

Cheers.

In the meantime, this intervention is still better than nothing. It is obvious the government doesn't care about the masses because the masses themselves do not care about themselves or are ignorant about what they deserve. If they chose to vote for people who have no good intentions for them due to ethnic and religious affiliation, then you should at least appreciate this effort.
