Breaking: Amaka Obi "SACKED" by Governor Soludo

By: Ebuka Asogwa| Awka

In a dramatic turn of events, Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has wielded the axe on Mrs. Amaka Obi, the transition Chairman of Idemmili South Local Government Area and other of her colleagues. This was contained in a letter signed by Hon. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, dated 17th May, 2024 and was sighted by our correspondent.

The governor's directive, instructing all 21 local government transition chairmen to step down from their positions by Monday, 20th May 2024, was issued following one Mrs. Amaka Obi's resistance to allowing the conduct of a free and fair mock election for her successor as directed by the Governor. Amaka Obi's antics and defiance were to impose herself on the people inspite the stance of key stakeholders from the towns in Idemmili South on a power shift away from Awka-Etiti, which has monopolized the Chairmanship position of the local government for eight (cool uninterrupted years.

Amidst mounting pressure from various quarters, including youth, women, and other interest groups, Mrs. Amaka Obi persisted in her defiance, even going as far as allegedly employing thugs to disrupt the process. Her unilateral declaration of victory further aggravated tensions, disregarding the wishes of both the APGA party and key stakeholders.

With the political atmosphere in Idemmili South reaching boiling point, Governor Soludo has taken decisive action, relieving Mrs. Amaka Obi of her duties and mandating her to hand over to the Head of Service of the local government council by the stipulated date of Monday, 20th May 2024.

The official communication, titled "EXPIRATION OF TENURE AND HANDOVER TO HEADS OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION (HsLGA)," marks the end of Mrs. Amaka Obi's tenure, signaling a significant progress in the politics of Idemmili South.

The letter from the ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs reads:
"Following the expiration of your tenure as Transition Committee Chairman, you are hereby directed to handover the affairs of your Local Government Council to the Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), in your respective Local Government Councils.

2. This directive takes effect from Monday, 20th day of May, 2024.

3. Thank you for your service to the state.

Anambra was worst than this before Obi came on board and brought sanity into the polity. Soludo should do all things not to take the state back to those days.
