There is tension in Umuahala and Umuorie villages of Asa in Ukwa West LGA following the death of Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachi, who was allegedly pushed down from a crane by a Chinese, Mr G.Z. Zhen. Zhen, who is the manager of Inner Galaxy, a steel manufacturing company, was alleged to have pushed Munachi from a crane at the company, resulting in her death. The reason for the violent action of the Chinese manager has not been established so far but youths and elders of Umuahala, where the victim hailed from, are accusing foreigners working in the Inner Galaxy of subjecting Nigerian staff to slave labour and other inhumane treatments. Apart from this, the company was accused by the youths of paying peanuts as salaries to staff even after working overtime. The news of the death of the female staff made the host communities boil in anger as youths stormed the company on Monday in search of the Chinese manager. However, armed security personnel guarding the factory formed a barricade around the facility to prevent the angry crowd from causing any destruction. When contacted, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the report of the incident had been received by the police. ” We got a report alleging that Mr G.Z. Zhen through his actions, led to the death of one of his staff, Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachi. An investigation is ongoing, ” said ASP Chinaka.
