It's troubling to see this pattern of lack of transparency in government contracts continue under the current administration. The recent revelations by Premium Times about missing vital details on newly awarded contracts echo a long-standing issue with Bola Tinubu’s political career and governance. During his tenure as Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, Tinubu faced serious allegations of corruption and misuse of public funds. In 2011, the Code of Conduct Bureau charged him with operating multiple foreign bank accounts while in office, which is prohibited for public officials in Nigeria. Although the case was later dismissed on technical grounds, it raised significant concerns about his financial dealings and commitment to ethical governance. Furthermore, in 2019, an investigative report by Sahara Reporters exposed how Tinubu allegedly used Alpha Beta Consulting, a firm linked to him, to funnel billions of Naira in Lagos State funds into private accounts. The firm had an exclusive contract to collect taxes on behalf of the Lagos State Government, leading to accusations of kickbacks and other corrupt practices. The current lack of transparency in contract awards suggests that such questionable practices may still be ongoing. Without full disclosure of contractors' names, project durations, and contract amounts, it becomes almost impossible to ensure accountability and proper oversight of public funds. This pattern of opacity and corruption undermines public trust and hampers Nigeria’s development. It is crucial for the government to address these issues head-on by ensuring full transparency and adherence to the Public Procurement Act. Only through genuine accountability can we hope to see meaningful progress and development in our nation. Sources: 1. Fkmodhi: In 2014, GEJ tried to remove subsidy and BAT/Buhari/Wole Soyinka/Bakare, etc led the upheavals that ended it. Should I remind you that the quality of life was much better? Should I remind you that a bag of rice sold for 8,000, petrol @84, etc. The same Tinubu told all of you that subsidy was the worst thing to happen to Nigerians. Now Tinubu has on TV told you all that he removed subsidy. Do you buy petrol? Do you buy bread? Do you pay transport? Unfortunately for supporters like you, Tinubu has been paying the same subsidy since August last year and you all believe his stories. Is it that you all are bewitched? When will you lot ever wake up to the reality of APC locust years? When will you start holding leadership accountable for leading Nigerians into such misery, hardship and poverty. Dem take poverty do una? 1 Like |
