Emirate Restoration: Sanusi Reinstated As Emir Of Kano by obasanjonews(m): 6:10am On May 24
Four years after Muhammadu Sanusi II was removed from his position as the Emir of Kano, Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has reinstated him to the throne. The governor made this announcement at the Art Chamber of the Kano State Government House, expressing his approval of Mallam Sanusi Lamido's reappointment with the support of the kingmakers.

Emir Sanusi II, previously known as Lamido Sanusi, had served as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria before ascending to the throne.

Governor Yusuf reinstated him immediately after enacting the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024, which replaced the Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019 and dissolved the emirate councils established by the previous governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The decision to split the Kano Emirate into five separate entities in 2019, leading to the removal of the 14th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, had sparked controversy. Governor Yusuf's reversal of this decision aimed to restore the ancient Kano Emirate to its original status.

Following the enactment of the new law, the emirs of the dissolved emirates were given 48 hours to vacate their palaces. Governor Yusuf emphasized that all appointments made under the 2019 law were now void, and the only recognized emir in Kano was the reinstated Emir Sanusi II.
