germaphobe:

Arsenal didn't request for the EPL trophy, the fireworks, the victory stage and medals to be in our home, it's the league's rule. And there's a possibility that they can win the league so the preparation around the stadium is understandable. Trolling or not it is what should be done.
The trolling community no wan hear that one.

City will be fielding Ortega and that’s a chance! All we need is a little bit of luck. We absolutely have to put Everton away early to remove the pressure.

I agree. He reminds of E. Martinez, albeit a humble version.

No be today Spuds start to dey useless.

Remember when the season United won the treble? 98/99.. We were in a similar situation and on the final day of the season, we needed Spuds to get a result for us to win the league, well guess what?

The idiots went up 1-0 before ultimately losing 2-1 to guarantee United the EPL. I want that club relegated for life.

Sir Kelechi Decca writes on the animosity between Arsenal and Spurs.

An interesting read!!!

My son, the level of repugnance between Arsenal fans and Tottenham Hotspurs is like no other rivalry in football history anywhere in the world.

Though we have the “eternal enemies derby’ between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos, but the one between these two North London clubs is beyond that.

It is even above other strong derby rivalries like the Derbi Madrileno between Real and Athletico, the Paulista Derby between Corinthians and Palmeiras, the Old Firm Derby between Rangers and Celtic, the Derby Della Madonnina Milan between AC Milan and Inter Milan, the Kitalararasi Derbi between Fernerbache and Galatasaray, the Merseyside Derby between Liverpool and Everton or the Manchester Derby. None of these derbies are as antagonistic, disrelish and odious as the North London derby.

Why it is so and what led to that, he asked.

My son, this resentment started over a hundred years ago, specifically, 111 years ago in 1913 when Arsenal (then known as Woolwich Arsenal) carry their wahala from the Manor Ground, Plumstead to Highbury, just by the doorstep of Tottenham.

Tottenham and their fans considered this move as an invasion of privacy. They did not like that closeness because they believed it would split their fan base, and also put them in a very uncomfortable position. And they protested vehemently against it adding that Arsenal did not come in peace.

Arsenal was originally a southern England club, and it was the first from the south to join the Football League in 1893. Before the relocation of Woolwich Arsenal to North London, the entire territory belonged to Tottenham and Tottenham's early success in the league and popularity amongst regional supporters made the region undisputedly theirs.

The resentment over Arsenal's move to North London has led to Spurs fans continually referring to Arsenal as being from Woolwich to stress that Arsenal were from South London.

Till date, Spurs fans have regarded Arsenal as usurpers. And as far as the original North Londoners are concerned, the invaders are an uninvited nuisance that has no right to be there.

Events after the 1st World War led to the deepening of the enmity between the two rival clubs. After the war, the Football League decided to expand the first division from 20 clubs to 22. However, Arsenal finished fifth in the second division in the last season before the war.

Due to the influence of their ownership, they got the management of the League to pick the top two second division sides to join the 1st Division, and a vote should take place to determine whether or not another second division side should move up with them.

So against the protestations of other clubs that the third place organization from the second division should be promoted, The League bought Arsenal’s idea, and boom, the fifth best club in the second division was promoted to the top tier.

That singular decision in 1919 is one Tottenham fans have held against Arsenal accusing them of financially inducing the leadership of the League for the abracadabra that led to their promotion as they insist Arsenal never earned their right to play in the 1st Division. Interestingly, since that time Arsenal has never been relegated since that vote.

And as if to confirm their fears, in 1919 when Arsenal were unexpectedly promoted to the First Division, taking a place that Tottenham believed should be theirs.

They Kicked Spurs out of the 1st Division as one club from the top tier had to be relegated to accommodate the divisional restructuring. This rubbing pepper into injury deepened the rancor to eternal enmity levels that still festers till date.

Another injury to the bone marrow was in the 1927-28 season, Arsenal was comfortably a mid-table club while Spurs was fighting relegation battle. Then Arsenal did the unthinkable, they lost two matches at the end of the season to give Burnley and Portsmouth an edge over Spurs in the final tally, leaving Tottenham to relegation once again as the second-to-last club in the division.

So those of you too young to know when the seed of what happened few days ago at White Hart Lane was sown should listen to elders like us. That unsportsmanship display by Arsenal in 1928 nearly pushed Spurs into oblivion as they couldn’t crawl their way back to the 1st Division for five seasons.

Another development that infuriated Spurs was when Arsenal played their games at White Hart Lane because the government took over Highbury Stadium for use as an air raid precautions facility during the 2nd World War, so Arsenal used Spurs ground for their home games.

It's one thing to consistently finish above your local rivals (whose territory you stole) in the league (which you never earned the right to play in), and it's another thing entirely to shove that fact into the faces of Spurs fans—after scheming to kick them out of the league twice and then using their facilities during difficult war times.

Then the Sol Campbell affair reignited that hatred opening up old wounds that have refused to heal...

So while all these were happening where was your club Chelsea, he asked.

Chelsea is too big to engage in children's games of "irunye aka n’ike shie n’ imi"
