coogar:

debosky, let's be honest here - arsene wenger is a complete idïot. seamus coleman is the best right wingback in england & wenger's tactics was to put ozil on the left to stop coleman? does that make any sense to you?

Anyone who thinks Ozil was played there to 'stop' Coleman (or anybody else for that matter) is the one being idiotic. It's like saying Liverpool played Coutinho to 'stop' Zabaleta.

Pataki note - Ozil never 'drifted' to a natural role - he remained on the left which is where he exchanged passes with Santi for the first goal.

I don't know where these conspiracy theories stem from - Ozil now being played left because of Wilshere? undecided Didn't Ozil stay left after Santi came on? Or is Wenger also pushing Ozil to the 'wings' for Santi as well?

Ozil is playing where Na$ri/Silva played yesterday to devastating effect - that's what Wenger was trying to do.

As for Giroud, it's a pity, but maybe a blessing in disguise if it forces Wenger into buying a striker.

More pressing is the CB and DM in that order - I don't think Wenger will sign more than 2 players maximum, and my bets are still on the CB.
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Roland17(m): 9:47pm On Aug 26, 2014
Wenger would be silly to let Poldi leave, now that Giroud is down.

I personally would love to see Poldi remain at the emirates, he is a committed and dedicated player, with a thunder bolt for a left foot and don't forget he is a more efficient strike option irrespective of the position he plays upfront, his only grouse is the opportunity to play regular footy, which I think he has earned considering his numbers last season..

I hope he stays, especially since my gut feelings tell me Wenger is not interested in reinforcing the CF position..

What has David Silva got to do with this discussion? undecided undecided I only made a deduction from Arsene's statement. I may be wrong but after Arsene makes a statement like "Don't worry, I'll build a team for you" to English journos and then I see him play Ozil on the left and Jack in midfield, I am allowed to assume which is exactly what I did.
His exact words:

"He is English (talking about Chambers) and I hope in the future we have a core of the English national team because what we have learned over the past two World Cups is that Spain won it with six players from Barcelona, this time Germany won it with six players from Bayern Munich - I hope England win it with six players from Arsenal."

In the same interview , he adds that

"It is a big season for Jack," Wenger said.

"But in the last three years, for me, this is the best shape he's has been in. He has prepared, I think he is rid of his ankle problems and if he can maintain that I think he will have a great season - but it is a very important season for him."

For those waiting for a striker to replace Giroud who may be out for 4 months

The giant Serbian striker could be set for a shock move to the Emirates Stadium as Arsene Wenger seeks to replace Olivier Giroud, who faces four months on the sidelines
Arsenal have offered a contract to former Birmingham City striker Nikola Zigic, according to the Serbian forward's agent.

The Gunners could be in the market for a new frontman after Olivier Giroud picked up an injury that is expected to keep him out of action for up to four months.

And now Zigic's agent, Milan Calasan, has suggested that Arsene Wenger is looking to sign the striker to deputise for Giroud - though Zigic could yet shun Arsenal and move to Turkey or Switzerland instead.

When asked about Arsenal's reported interest in Zigic, Calasan told SPORT: “It is true. Wenger called me on Tuesday afternoon and told me that he wants to bring Zigic to Arsenal.

"It is clear that you cannot reject an offer like that. But Zigic is the one who must decide. He must say what he wants.

"But Wenger was clear, he is offering a contract until the end of the season with the option for another 12 months. I know that Arsenal are in a hurry, but Nikola also has offers from Turkey and Switzerland."

Zigic has played only one season in the Premier League - the 2010-11 campaign with Birmingham - during which he scored five goals in 25 games and bagged the opener in the shock 2-1 victory over Arsenal in the League Cup final.

His significant wages - reportedly worth around £60,000 - proved a financial drain on the Blues after their relegation to the Championship, however.

Wenger intends to keep Lukas Podolski at the Emirates Stadium following news of Giroud's injury but, like Alexis Sanchez, the German has mostly featured on the wing for the Gunners.

That has left youngster Yaya Sanogo as their only remaining centre forward, with Theo Walcott also currently sidelined.

Ordinarily, I would have dismissed this as it's on goal.com but there are quotes there directly from Zigic's agent. Unless the agent is lying or the SPORT journo is lying, we may be seeing Zigic coming in before close of the window cheesy

For Alexis to succeed as a CF with us, we have to be very compact with possession, crisp passing with bodies around him when attacking, his technique, skill and ball intelligence are pretty impressive thus it's easier to maneuver opponents, if he is left alone upfront like the game against Everton and the early minutes of this game, we might never see the best of Alexis as a CF even though I hope he plays behind a striker or a free role to roam the attacking third.

J.W, what can I say, an excellent performance, it's been a very long while since I saw Jack display such maturity with possession, quick passing and excellent positioning without the ball, I just hope he is able to stay up when tackling as he almost cost us a penalty..

Team chemistry and pass timing are improvements I trust more playing time would bring..

Funny enough I cant pick a man of the match, but that Debuchy clearance was a life saver- could have changed the game.
