Any poets on Nairaland? Well here's one of my poems. Tell me what you think about it. Anyone else who has a poem to post should do the same and we'll give our views.
inspiration walked away

DEPRESSED

a silent tip-toeing walk

hapiness said hes goodbyes

in search of a more cheerful host

laughter kissed me on the cheek

it was fun while it lasted,now i take my leave

love ranaway

how could you desert me

tears become my bestfriend

my only companion

while hatred moved in

set hes bags by the door

pity threw mw a party

"go on wallow"he said

loneliness called to say he was coming

hope you have a spare bed

sadness crept in where love fled

suicide tot it best to play with my head

anger moved in next door

he says"anytime you need me ill be there"

now i have this particular swagger

like one not right in the head

eyes seem heavy

like i stayed up a thousand nites

now i walk a tired walk

that which resembles the living dead

if i didnt know better

id say i was DEPRESSED!

MY AFRICAN BROTHER

my african brother
why do you wear masks
why do you try to conceal
the very thing that makes you who you are
you try to rid urself
of all africaness
my black skinned brother wearing white masks
how dare you sell your soul
for a spot in their good books
you seek for a check beside your name
a sign of approval...almost like fame
skin;of toasted bread and coffee
your almost white...you presume
be not fooled by the lightness of your skin
your as black as can be
if only you could get rid of the stain
"stain" that's what you call it
to you,being black causes you pain
in your dream world
your of european descent
imagining your self
chattering away in brilliant oxford accent
prancing on the streets of london
swaps hes dashiki's for hes three piece flannel suit
you turn your nose upwards
when you come across a fellow man of your home
you upset my insides
you bloody sell-out
you deny your roots
but i just laugh
black man in white man's clothing
they mock you secretly
"look at that poor fool..who wants to be white"
they spit on the very thought of you..
my black brother
be proud of who you are
african from head to foot
this is the very depth of your roots:black
walk proud!

A poem from my days in boarding school.

A Dining Hall Scene
A scene of pandemonium
A display of lawlessness
An occasion for chaos
An exposure of innate characters

A clash of wills
Where smiles abound
Long queues never end
Double rations all along
every hotangel and laide
is involved in the struggle for a double ration

And I wrote this in 1995

The Childless Woman
She has no place in society
No contribution to the childish shrieks and cries in the house.
No one to cuddle to her bossom
She is still called iyawo,when others are called Iya abigael.
A male she goat
She has tilled the land for so long
Yet it remains unyielding
Dejected,Rejected and frustrated
Tale-bearers carry her misfortune all about
And the only panacea to her problem lies in the birth of a child.
Though called "mother of the house"
She has none to call her own
Like our elders always say
"ours is Ours" while "mine is mine"
A woeful lot indeed.

I love my dansel and she loves me.
Whenever she's with me I feel great, 24 hrs with me is like a second.
When she touches me l feel the touch of an angel
Her lips are full of honey comb
She looks me straight to the eye
and I was deeply moved.

Every satisfaction is just with her
I never enjoy staying with anyone except her
Babe, your love is fascinating, better than wine.
Your neck is a tower of ivory, your hair like purple.

How pleasant and fair you are O' love for delights.
you're the best that ever happened to me
the treasure I cherish.
You've got all I want.

losing you will be damned forever
it will be a greatest treasure thrown into the ocean.
I will never let you go.
I just love you.

My little rhyme...
When you are faced with problems you dread;
And you say to yourself; "I wish I was dead";
Your burdens are so heavy, they make you to bend;
And you weep and weep till your eyes are red;

Remember, on my shoulders you can rest your head;
I promise my bosom will be your bed;
Don't forget or doubt that I said;
I will always be your friend;

On a cross that's rugged my blood I shed;
It was you that sinned but I died instead;
Thus the greatest of all love, I shared;
And before you pray, I have heard.

I'm running the race just like a hare;
Look back or compromise, I do not dare;
Something tells me; "relax, you near"
Oh No! I won't relax until I get there.

I'm moving on with a zeal so rare;
Day after day, year by year;
How rough the road is, I wouldn't care;
I won't relax until I get there;

I know the devil has laid a snare;
But the armour of God is what I wear;
Even in the deepest valleys, I shall not fear;
I won't relax until I get there;

I'm not satisfied with staying here;
Every burden I will always bear;
Even if I get not a single cheer;
I won't relax until I get there.
