All these are just talks., no one asked for fiqures, what i want and what Nigeria needs is a steady power supply, until then, all these talks should be shoved asided, cos they are irrelevant.

will the heaven come down if u support this government? with ur mouth, u decree what happen to u. i just wonder why some ppl choose to shut their ears at any sign of progress. GEJ this, GEJ that, as if Nigeria used to be a paradise. u most probably 4got to ask urselves the possible outcome of a unanimous contribution towards the betterment of this country. and whether Goodluck is truly a good man, u neither know nor cared. all that mattered to u is that there are points for which u can use and nail him. GOD is watching!

Then, I'll p1ss over the transmission station and bring the power supply up to 10,000MW! Rubbish.

So It's either the FG is lying or the newspapers did not understand the information they received

Shiroro runs on 4 units x 150 mw Generators , in actuality, only one unit was abandoned and overhauled and thats what the article stated, So the truth to the matter is they are actually restoring the availability of an existing capacity of 150 mw only and not 600mw

Power supply to improve as Shiroro Dam generates 300 MW

From Iliya Garba, Minna

T he present administration’s efforts to improve  power  supply in the country got a boost recently with the record breakthrough of generating about 300 megawatt at Shiroro dam in Niger state.
A survey conducted by People’s Daily in Minna showed that there is remarkable improvement in the power supply following the determination of the present administration to reposition the power sector for social and economic growth.
It was gathered that, the Shiroro dam which is the biggest in the country with the capacity to generate 600magawatts, has been providing skeletal services until when the turn-around maintenance was carried out about two months ago.
A source at the Shiroro dam informed Peoples Daily that before the turn around maintenance, the station hardly generate 100 megawatts thereby contributing to the problem of power shortage in the country.
Speaking on the development, Head of generation Shiroro dam, Engr. Emmanuel Choike, disclosed that the station is currently generating about 300 megawatts adding that the water level of the reservoir is now at its peak.
He said the power generating plant in Shiroro has the capacity of 600 megawatts with full capacity at its installment in 1963 but that the four turbines that broke down would be repaired before the end of this year to meet the target of 450 megawatt.
He expressed delight saying “we are presently operating at about 100 percent capacity since the construction of the dam.

The article is talking about this month and yet you mention some nebulous unfulfilled promise from the past. This month has only 31 days, ok?
Let us draw notes in a few days time. Simples.

for the paid sycophants who blather about 'nebulous unfulfilled promises'

THE Federal Government has failed to deliver on its planned target to generate 6000 Megawatts (MW) of electricity for the national grid by December 2009, even as the Ministry of Power bandies excuses over this failing, pleading gas supply inadequacy, sabotage, the Niger delta crises, etc.

At the time of filing this report, Dr. Lanre Babalola, the Minister of Power disclosed in an exclusive interview that about 3,500 MW of electricity was being generated from both Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and Independent Power Plants (IPP) operated entities.

Dr. Babalola explained that his ministry had so far ramped up installed power generation capacity to 5300 MW, adding that figure should hit the 6000 MW target by December.

However, Sweet crude checks revealed that the increase in installed generation capacity has not necessarily translated to improved power supply as most house holds, commercial enterprises and industries nationwide still run on power generators.

The December deadline promised by the Federal Government to generate 6,000 megawatts of electricity supply may have eventually been a mirage as only 3,500 megawatts have so far be generated.

The indication to this was disclosed by the Minister of Power, Dr Olanrewaju Babalola, in an interactive session with newsmen during his official visit to Gereku power station located at Ajaokuta, Kogi State, at the weekend.

Dr Babalola revealed that power generation, as at the weekend, stood at 3,500mw but explained that the most important thing being put in place was to have efficient power system, “whether we realise the 6,000 or 10,000mw and this is what we are trying to do.”

While submitting that the Federal Government was committed to improving power supply in the country, the minister said that efforts were in top gear to ensure 100 per cent connection of the power generated to the grid.

Speaking on solar energy as an alternative power supply, Babalola, who lauded the technology, however, said that solar energy as designed could only deliver a fraction of what was expected, stressing that the energy was not as efficient as it should be, particularly, in urban areas, adding that its components could not be sourced locally.

We have just gone from $30b in reserve acc to $40b debt under Gej. That's $70b+ gone and there is no improvement in power, road, health, or oil sector.

There are strong indications that the country may not meet the 5000 megawatts electricity power generation promised by the end of 2011.

A source at the National Control Centre, Osogbo, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Friday that power generation had even dropped further from 4,089.4 to 3, 881 megawatts.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, had in August said government was exploring various short-term measures to get power generation to 5000 megawatts by December.

A source at the NCC however told NAN that the power generation, which stood at 4,089.4 on Thursday evening, had dropped to 3,881 megawatts by Friday morning.
