Kaduna -A housemaid, Rukayya Adam has told a sharia court in Kaduna that she heard Sa’adiya Shuaibu apologising to her husband Muhammad Adamu over the paternity of her two- month old son.

Rukayya was at the court as a witness in a case of paternity denial between Sa’adiya and her husband, Muhammad Adamu.

She said that she heard Sa’adiya, who was pregnant then, begging her husband to forgive her that the pregnancy did not belong to him.

Rukayya said she overheard them talking over the issue, while she was doing her domestic chores close to the couple’s living room.

Another witness, Malam Samaila Ya’u also told the court that he was present at the time Sa’adiya‘s father, Malam Shuaibu apologised to Adamu over the issue.

“Shuaibu told us that he interrogated the girl and found out that the girl got pregnant before her marriage to Adamu.

“ Sa’adiya’s father told us that he would further interrogate her to know the person responsible for the pregnancy to credit the child’s paternity to him.“

“The father pleaded with Adamu in my presence to keep the nursing mother for two days as he will send for her and her property.“

Ya’u, however, said Adamu had told Sa’adiya’s father that he had already divorced her.

Reacting to the witness’ testimony, Sa’adiya denied that her father told Adamu that she got pregnant before the marriage.

She, however, did not deny the testimony given by her former housemaid.
