Nigerian students in Canada should check on us.

When those in Canada tell them how difficult it is, the ones in Nigeria tell them to return back home if it’s that’s bad.

Canada is just one overhyped destination making money off immigrants. It does not have the structure to sustain what it is admitting.

USA on the contrary has enough economy especially if you're into STEM.

Honestly it's USA or Nigeria to me. They hardly have time there doing 3 or 4 works in USA unless you're illegal immigrant or into crime or not in STEM (science, technology, medicine).

Truth be told, those Nigerians in Canada dey hear am. At this point, even the UK is a bit better than Canada especially in the area of jobs. The latter is not even a global leader in any key industry, and good jobs are very scarce.

Now, it's very difficult to get almost any kind of visa to Canada now. A simple LinkedIn search on "Jobs in Canada" results in 272k jobs; For the UK it's 650k; and the US is 5.8M jobs.

If any miracle happens and Nigeria's economy returns to near pre-2015 and security improves, I'm almost certain that most of those those in Canada will fly back!

Btw, Nigerians in Canada wey dey "hear am" are ones that came to school without money with the hope of working to raise money for school fees and living expenses. Unfortunately, the chances of that happening now is very low.

To your last point, migration didn't start in 2015. People have been migrating before then. The thing now is lots more people want to migrate for obvious reasons and they are now getting desperate. This is just not only Nigeria. The rate of migration since after covid has tripled globally and the reason is that almost all countries of the world suffered economic decline after covid and the worst hit are 3rd world countries.

First off, I am not "consoling" myself in anyway, and I have friends and colleagues that migrated there via Skilled and Student Visa respectively. Migration is not my priority now.

Now, who taught you in today's world to strictly correlate population with the strength of the economy and number of job openings available?

Japan is is the world's 4th largest economy with 125m people and has 609k jobs advertised; Italy is the 9th largest economy with 58m and has only 168k jobs. Now in a deep contrast, China is the second largest economy with 1.4 bn people, yet it has 1.2m jobs.

In these scenarios, we see that UK with a much smaller population has slightly more jobs than Japan, which ranks ahead of it in both population and economy.

Then also, Italy with a larger population and economy than Canada has significantly lower job opening than the latter.

The same holds for the US too. There's a stark disparity in the job openings when compared to China and these two economies are the top two in the world, with China having a whole lot more population than the US.

Bringing it down to Africa, if we are to go by your "statistics", Nigeria ought to have the largest number of job openings in Africa, but is that the case?

It has a measly 8k job openings, while South Africa (with a much smaller population) has more jobs openings—33k jobs and Egypt has 13k jobs.

Can you see the absurdity in your first two paragraphs?

Canada is no longer what it used to be, and it's quite complicated now. I understand.
