Kano State government is mapping out strategies to sanitize the Sabon-Gari drug market in an effort to curtail the sale of fake and sub-standard drugs. The market has been posing as haven for fake and sub-standard drugs.
This was made known yesterday in Kano by the state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at the national annual symposium and award ceremony of the Nigerian Association of Industrial Pharmacists (NAIP), Kano State Chapter.

Kwankwaso, who was represented by the State Commissioner for health, Dr Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, said Kano was facing enormous challenge in the area of drug abuse, saying government would however not relent in its effort to fight the menace.

He particularly expressed concern over the abuse of Codene which is used as cough syrup by the youths, saying about five places were discovered where such drugs were illegally produced. He further said that government was into partnership with the police in address the issue.

Earlier in his speech, the chairman of NAIP, Kano State chapter, Pharmacist Bala Maikudi said Kano is leading in the manufacture of good drugs in the whole country, assuring the state government of co-oporation in the fight against fake and sub standard drugs.

The state governor and two other members of the association were honoured for contributing positively towards the development of the health sector.
