Update On The Case Of The Raped Female Detainee In The Efcc Cell by Dorisdey1: 8:35pm On Dec 28, 2011
Our investigation on the case of a female detainee has continued to produce more concrete results. The lady was about 42 years old at the time the incident occurred. She hailed from either Anambra or Enugu State. She was a widow, having lost her husband a few months before she was arrested by the EFCC. She had 4 young children then. While in EFCC detention, this lady was desperate for an early release from detention so she could return to be with her children. The EFCC officer in question is from one of the Northern states. He was, at the time, married to two wives. Information now emerging shows that rather than our earlier belief that the sexual exploitations occurred in one of the EFCC offices, the man actually would go into the lady’s cell in the middle of the night to have sex with her, against her will. He would threaten to put her in solitary confinement or to prolong her detention if she refused. In such a situation of total helplessness, she would simply close her eyes and cry as the man violated her dignity and humanity.

Investigation further shows that when the woman reported the incident and the test confirmed her story to be true, EFCC leadership took steps to cover it up. The man was never disciplined. They threatened the woman, and actually worked hard to ensure that she was transferred to Kirikiri prison and denied bail. She was in that prison when she was finally discharged and acquitted of all the charges. By then the woman was due to give birth and was a totally broken person. The baby that resulted from the sordid incident is now over one year old. It has been ascertained that the EFCC man has never given even a penny for the upkeep of the child. This woman, who was having hard time raising 4 children alone, now has the added burden of raising the child violently sired by the resident rapist in EFCC. The man basically used, abused and discarded this poor and unfortunate woman like a disposable item.

The striking thing about this case is actually that Farida Waziri actively covered it up. She conceived the idea that if questioned, EFCC would argue that the lady consented to sex. The woman was therefore blamed for enticing the EFCC man. The aim was to now use such story to distort the false image Mrs. Waziri was creating then about the EFCC. Even today, the EFCC leadership is still towing the official line that the woman enticed the man and consented to sex. As we speak, this lady remains poor, unable to feed her children; vulnerable and ravaged by opportunistic people like those that detained her in EFCC cell. She couldn’t even afford the transport to pursue a complaint for what happened to her. She is afraid that the man that raped her could harm her and her children if she were to pursue her rights against him and his EFCC. I recently sent a petition on the matter to the Nigeria’s Attorney General, requesting an investigation and necessary further action. I have not yet received any response from the office of the Attorney General.

One sided story - why dont u write the EFCC side of the story? Or the officer's side as well.
