Fellow compatriots, Irrespective of our political differences and our sectional affiliation, irrespective of whether we voted for or against GEJ,
Our country is under attack from those who want to bring us down to our knees and cut all the ties that bind us, so that we can no longer act as one.
Now is not the time for bipartisan machinations or tribalism, now is the time for us to unite behind our President no matter how incompetent we think he is.
Let us support and pray for him as he fight for our future, let us bear in mind that yes ethnicity and religion may divide us, yet geography, common history and the same aspirations has brought is into this century as one indivisible nation, a nation that our fathers sacrificed their lives to ensure that it stay thus.
An attack on any region or followers of any religion is an attack on all of us. My Fellow countrymen, Unite behind our leader as we approach these dark days ahead.

Thank you Anwar h for the comment above. Excellent move by Goodluck. Fellow Nigerians our collective existence is being challanged by a group of terrorist. we must come together as one to defeat them. This is not a Christian/Muslim fight,Neither is it a north/south devide. It is a GOOD VS EVIL fight. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

abouqi:

These are local govts of emergency not states of emergency, or what do you think people? This is interesting! It is very clear now that our so called president is afraid of these govs. Mtcshewwwww!!!!

Is this a joke? States of Emergency means "states" that are under emergency? is that how you understand the meaning of state of emergency? So, because its not given for the entire state, its then LGA of emergency? This is not funny, but rather makes me begin to wonder the kind of intellect of the people on NairaLand.
Re: Text Of Gej's Address To The Nation- Imposes State Of Emergency In Some Lgas by KnowAll(m): 10:33pm On Dec 31, 2011
Does that mean those LGA would not have a local government chairman, and the military would appoint a Major,  Colonel or even a Police Officer to man that post for the time been .That would invariably mean the Military officer in charge of the LG would be tasked to spending the funds allocated to the LG as the DE-facto caretaker chairman. If that is the case that would be good news as the Salary of the Chairman of the LG and his Councillor would be saved and used directly for the people.

But if it was a case that the LG Chairmen and his Councillors are still on ground managing the resources of the LG then what is this 'State OF Emergency all about then" how is the situation now diffrent from what obtained b4, or is Mr President just window-dressing a problem by calling it a different name. I need a clear and concise explanation of what this state of emergency means by those in the know
.!! undecided

the situation has not escalated to a point in which a state of emergency is needed, whether thats at local, state or national level. What will be accomplished under this declaration that could not be achieved before? FG lack proper definition, identification and plan of action to demolish boko. The FG understand all the terminologies for describing terror and the measured reactionary response to give to them but they lack good footing for applying resolve and command.

Give us your antidote and I can assure you it will reach the right quarters. We are listening. And if you dont or you cant, I will take it as another "social critic" without a solution.

A step in the right direction, I would say.

lol. . .  i like your challenge.

First, in the history of mankind no government has ever won a war against the will of a grassroot movement.  If this fire catches on and become a popular movement in the north, its over for the FG.  So they have to intervene and lead a counter force on the social front.  That can easily be achieved by setting up a hearing and in which the emirs are asked to share their views and projections.  FG should then draw up a plan and assign ownership to the emirs, with measurable values and milestones to report on.

Second, anytime a force fight your army on their own soil and refuse to beat a retreat or yield ground to the military, then you are dealing with a party intent on defeating your army and imposing its own on you.  Kingmakers!

Third, when political differences boil over into violence, then someone is going to feel cheated or deprived in the long run and so you detach from who is right or wrong, you detach from quoting rule of law. . . you introduce a way to negotiate interests and needs.

For the first situation the emirs should be given ownership of bringing their people back to their fold.

For the second one, the army is not fighting with command. . . . they need command.  If they perceive the CiC is weak, then that weakness descends down to the troops.  GEJ has not rallied strongly in their cause and so that lack of command from top will demoralize morale.  For example when some leaders in Maiduguri accused Army of indiscrimante killings, GEJ stopped their forward march.  Wrong command!

For the thrid situation, . . . . GEJ has a pool of negotiators, particularly in Yorubaland that know how to break political walls.  He should use their resource.

By all means, FG must be in charge and control of assault against boko. . . but use auxiliaries to win the soft senses and emotions of peeople.

and bingo - Boko Haram will fade away. You need to be "appointed" the President of Nigeria. I fail to see the points though.

No they wont fade away. . . but they will be defeated and their spearhead cut off. We need execution. . . tactical, not theories and strategies.

I look forward to doing that one day, make sure you vote for Black! lmao.

To my brothers who are of the opinion that this move is wrong . .did not take into consideration the peculiar nature of our challenges . . .You failed to recognize the facts that:

(A) Our security personnel don't have the luxury of being stretched thin to cover the non violent areas, whereas the dark spots have have already being identified

(B) Migration to adjacent areas is not as easy as you think . . . their area of preference are those areas, they are conversant, comfortable and where they can easily blend cos they are part of the people and are known faces . . . . . .

It's like saying if a state of Emergency is declared in certain areas in Northern Kaduna State . .the haramites would migrate southwards to areas like the Zango Kataf . . .That is a death sentence in it self . . . or extremist from Jos North moving south wards to the berom dominated areas and vice versa . . .

That is not the kind of migration they want to undertake . .You only move from one spot to the other with similar favorable characteristics . .and if those areas are covered . . .they either lie low or risked being exposed to justice . . . .

This is tactical move in manning the troubled spots that have being synonymous to brutal episodes of madness . . . . Using your resource and information wisely  . .

Good points jmaine. We need special covert forces, contract secret service to fish them out while the army close the borders
