Oh Lord, this man has opened another corruption factory, if the FG complain of the Cabal how does he intend to tackle them alone, What happens when he steps down, will the next Gov continue this waste? By the way he is going to spend Billions to subsidise this while the benefit is infinitesimal to the users, What is the difference btw 140 and 137 to an individual consumer?

Isnt it funny and nonsensecial that what Jonathan is trying to stop is what Amechi is trying to start?

Political subsidy nonsense when there is enough money to build two refineries in Rivers State and produce petrol that can be sold at N37 per litre.
Re: Rivers Governor Introduces Fuel Subsidy, Cuts Price From N141 To N137 by omo9ja1(m): 9:50am On Jan 11, 2012
mmmm let us see, why can he not reduce it to N100
Re: Rivers Governor Introduces Fuel Subsidy, Cuts Price From N141 To N137 by cold(m): 9:57am On Jan 11, 2012
There is no subsidy here.N141 is not a true reflection of the pump price. It's definitely going slide downwards at some point
Re: Rivers Governor Introduces Fuel Subsidy, Cuts Price From N141 To N137 by efisher(m): 10:05am On Jan 11, 2012
Exactly @ Cold, I will be reluctant to call this subsidy until I hear all the facts. Long b4 now, northerners who were against PIB and resource control have always maintained that things like this are bound to happen. PMS can be 70 naira in PH but will be 150 naira in Sokoto! Rivers has its own refinery and N4 reduction is just a little less margin. I expect fluctuations in the market will allow pump price fall below this mark.

Misleading information hallmark of nigeria newspapers. The truth is that RSVG agreed to help the dealers remove obstacles like borrowing from bank by helping them buy out rivers quota from nnpc and give them to sell on credit. This was after the dealers complained banks interest, activities of black marketers as the reason the product is selling at 140 and above.Get your facts before publishing.

Guys there is no subsidy removal in rivers state. Y? Becos d mrketers buy the pdts 4rm d refinery at a cheaper price even less than N65. This means huge profit 4 them. The mrketers cant go less than N137 so dat people wont ask questns. Moreover Mrs DAM have not told us hw much Nigeria make 4rm crude oil sales daily. This money made covers 4 d subsidy.

If this does not prove to us that the era of subsidy was a waste, I wonder what will! Think people, this is happening just less than 2 weeks into d new policy! Why do we want to fight and die just to encourage waste?

Why can't the various state Governors initiate their own. The huge amt pumped to Saudi Arabia annually in d name of pilgrimage sponsorship can build 3 refineries in the 3 zones of d north.my advise is these northern zones can suspend sponsorship for 2yrs, mop up funds and build refs. They can resume by the 3rd year. Any serious religious person can actually finance himself to Mecca. My tots

This is another avenue for some people to get rich. Before you know it, they will come up with ficticious figures that rivers state consumes 3 quarter of our total oil consumption and that they have spent billions of naira paying the subsidy. Nice move mr governor, continue from were the federal government.

Dat money could be used to fund railway protect, build bridges or expand port harcourt metropolis. Foolish.

all the things u mentioned are on going, there's a railway project going on, Roads and bridges, expansion of Rivers state? never heard of the Greater port harcourt project? Rivers State generates enough electricity to sustain the state. its not like the state will be paying the subsidy from the states treasury, Rivers state is an oil producing state with multinational oil comapnies, dnt u think there are other factors that can be used to reduce the cost? tax, tranportation, or some form of agreement? maybe the people of rivers state dnt see the need to protest, Welcome to Regional Govt.

This is How the strike and protest crumbles. Its called Regional Governance, not only will Rivers State pay 4 naira. They will subsidize electricity and buil their power plants. Akwa Ibom is coming with a bumper package which after 2 yrs they clamour for 100% resource control because they have more to offer their citizens. Welcome to Regional governance. Each State needs to find its resources. No more NigerDelta funding One Nigeria

Not just that!

He has also directed all the transport unions to meet and reduce taxi fares. In the coming weeks, we should see at least a 30% reduction on all routes where fares were doubled.

Amaechi dey try. He should have been the president, not GEJ!

This is one aspect that has been overlooked by Nigerians, when the subsidy is removed, its obvious the three tiers of government will have their own share of the savings to use in providing the palliatives and better infrastructure.Has anyone asked their state governments how they intend to go about applying their own share of the savings??

subsidising the fuel for such a petty amount wont make people buy any less, or any more. it wont bring transport costs down significantly and therefore wont make any economical differenct to the state as opposed to the others in the country. result, useless nonsense and propaganda and possibly an avenue to just steal money.

why doesnt he use the cash to subsidise drugs? healthcare? textbooks?

ive said and said time again morons run our country!

Re: Rivers Governor Introduces Fuel Subsidy, Cuts Price From N141 To N137 by babestella: 11:58am On Jan 11, 2012
NOTE THE FOLLOWING POINTS:

1. Our govt has come forward with postulation that our fuel is being taken to Niger, Chad and other countries to sell at above 65 naira after they have collected fuel subsidy money from our govt. MY point is this, if fuel price is left at 140 per litre as it is now, the same cabals will still take the same fuel after bringing it in through our ports to those neighbouring countries to sell at higher prices, because one thing we must understand is that the prices of fuel in neighbouring countries is determined by prices and availability from our country. What this will even create is a situation where fuel is cleared from our port and transported straight to neighbouring countries where fuel prices will have risen to about 300 per litre. What does this mean, it then means that fuel will be scarce down here thereby making supply limited, and when you have limited supply, our prices are bound to hit between 280 to 300 naira per litre and this will happen any within the next 6 months if we allow this 138/141 per litre now. When that happens, we all can imagine what will happen to us all.

2. why are we going to be seeing all these?? Because our government have simply failed in her responsibility to check corruption starting from the past government to the present one now. They shy away from fight corruption and think that the easy thing to do is to shift the burden on innocent Nigerians. But that is totally wrong and we are saying that GEJ/Sambo are incapable to run this country and we are calling for their resignation.

3. I read in the Nations news paper dated Jan 3rd, 2012 page 17, it captions "N10 Billion naira Power equipment rot away at ports"
Now we can all see how our resources are being wasted. How on earth can such power equipment which should have been installed to generate power be allowed to waste away for the past 3 years. Now I read further and one of the reasons why it was abandoned at the port by government was that it was substandard and fake and now those who imported the equipment in the governments name want it to be abandoned and sold in auction so that they can buy it and use it for their own benefit, and probably sell it back to government who is in sole business of generating power nationally. We can all see the rot in our govt, and the way our govt wastes our resources without bulging. It is a such a shame that we have people in the government who as said to be Harvard grad, former directors at Shell, etc, and when I hear them talk on TV about the fuel subsidy removal, I get so disappointed and ashamed of our leaders. This is exactly how they are going to waste our resources if we eventually allow the price of fuel to stay at 138/141 per litre. We must resist it with the last drop of our blood.

4. The Petroleum industry bill is there to be passed. It has been with the senate for over 3 years now, and nothing is done about it. It is clear in the bill that infrastructures must be put in place before final deregulation is done and subsidy on fuel removed. Our govt is quick to remove subsidy but not quick to pass the PIB. May God help them, as we continue with this strike, and we are urging all Nigerians to speak with one voice, it is time we sack Jonathan and his cohorts if they refuse to revert back to 65 per litre. Nigeria is bigger than any individual or cabal, and should not be taken for a ride by these few greedy e-di ots.

5. How did our government utilize money realised from the removal of subsidy on DPK (Kerosene) and AGO (diesel)? Big question. Before they removed the subsidy on these 2 products, they promised that we are going to see improvement on infrastructures, health care, education etc. What are we seeing today, ASU strike, poor health care system, higher cost of education etc. Rather, they continue to earn millions of naira per annum in allowances.

6. We talk of state on insecurity in Nigeria today. The country is at the brink of collapse or even breaking up, and our dear president is more interested in fuel so that his government will have more money to share. It is laughable how our govt officials think at times, the country's unity is being threatened by a few Islamic sect and our govt is not bothered, rather they are bothered about raising more money to share. >>>> We cannot take this and we are saying that Jonathan is incapable, incompetent, and lack the intellectual capacity to lead this Nation, and we urge all Nigerians to stand up and lets send this man back to Otuoke his home town, people like him are not needed in the affairs of this Nation.

7. Removal of fuel subsidy will enable FDI, it is agreed, but when the FDI takes of, will our government tell them to sell fuel at 65 per litre, NO, they will not, because what brought them here in the first instance is the high price and if they must stay, the high price must remain and or even rise higher.

8. what is the actual landing cost of fuel in Lagos port? Please any one with information?

9. What is the actually subsidy figure?

10 What quantity of fuel do we consume daily in Nigeria, real figures please.

I rest my case for now.
