My Dear

Please I am not hear to sympathize with you but to tell you the whole truth if you must make it in employment - employer and employee relationship market.

The steps you took are not entirely correct in the first place. Do you know how many civil servants and other corporate employees whose salaries are not paid at month end and yet kept coming to work? If you are an employer and you delay salary for one week, then all your staff will demand reasons for delay and where you also delay in explaining, they will all abscond from work. How will you feel?

Humility and perseverance are compound virtue in life. You are employed to solve problems and one of the problems is to make money with which other problems are solved. How much did you make for the company while your stay lasted? You are only after your salary.

Frankly, you have just made yourself unemployable. Nobody would want to employ a character like you in his organization.

Solution

Humble yourself, go back to the company and apologize to them. Avoid exposing this flaws in the social media, the more you do the more you endanger your chances of employment. Be advised bros
this is one of the reasons why Nigeria will not move forward. So because other companies owe their workers for months before paying means op should put up with such. It's only a damaged person or someone without better options that remains in such working environment. If the company failed to pay as at when due, they should at least explain to op. That explanation alone is enough to keep him hopeful and find means of sorting his transport fare. I pray you don't experience some things before you learn and start making better judgement.

And during interviews, employees make all yeye talks of working as a team, being initiative , bringing fresh ideas bla bla but once employed, they bring nothing to the table. The moment you work like a machine (garbage in garbage out) in any establishment, then you are easily dispensable. What makes you stand out in any organization is your ability to bring in new ideas and innovations outside what the employer never ever thought which the op lacked
Exactly!

Also, ₦20,000 was deducted from my salary. However, good people of Nairaland, I'm in need of a job. I'm a graduate of Philosophy and I have experience as a virtual assistant and can perform efficiently any task you need assistance with. I'm also experienced as a customer care representative. I'm also a trained photographer. Thank you.

Then he made another mistake of bringing it to the internet. Employers are not smiling now. Not the best time for business. Lagos is a small world we're almost everyone knows everyone.

He will be shocked how this post might come to affect his chances of getting another job. Lessons learnt the hard way sha. You are not so anonymous on the internet. We should all be careful what we put out there.
Very correct, everyone is just looking at him with one eye, if he know what is good for him, he should just clear all his track and erase the company from his timeline and let it never come up again. And for the post he should just redact a lot of things

Very wrong, the only thing op did wrong was one leg in and out. He should have simply dropped resignation letter and request for his payment. No one can sack who has resigned

One man business job is very risky .. if you work for a private business, you are still jobless.. no job security.. you can be fired anytime.. No job like Government job even if the salary is 50k is better than private job of 300k.

With these skills of yours, if you promote yourself via the right channel(s), you won't need to create such post.

Sorry for quoting you but don't encourage him.
To the op, I know it's not easy working without pay but you already understand/know that the company is struggling to get gigs which affected their revenue and you refused to make sacrifices just for 2 months.
And you are now looking for another job, and if they have issues you will bolt also.
The economy is not easy for everyone especially entrepreneurs but employees can also make little sacrifices.
N/B: I am not supporting withholding staff wages but......
Are you saying he should hold himself for whole two months without payment, how do you think expect him to transport to work and eat , with low salary, next time don’t think like a CEO think like a employee

You are clearly supporting the employer but u r not proud of doing it.

If there is any reason to delay staff salary, they should be communicated too.. Not left alone...

The company messed and u don't blame the staff for asking a question....
I am not supporting any body here.
All I am saying is that we should all learn to make sacrifices where necessary.
Yeah the company did wrong by not communicating to them but from what he said he was aware the company was not getting jobs.
Not like he is 'junior member staff'. He is among those that does the jobs that brings the company income.
So, probably the company will think he is aware of their predicament.
I'm an entrepreneur, albeit on small scale with 2 staffs and I try to pay my staffs as at when due.
So, all I'm saying is we should learn to sacrifice.
If he had taken that business as his own (as should all employees) won't he fight for the company before leaving?

Most Nigerians don’t think like this , it’s rare for you to find a staff that will, ‘how do we increase revenue here?’

All they know is salary this and salary that.
My point exactly.
Show concern about how to grow the business.
Knowing fully well you involved in the day-to-day running of the company in an active capacity

But what?

If you're supporting nonsense, please own it with your full chest instead of deflecting. Piss in one corner.

Now to why I quoted you.

Can you Mr. Jerry survive on your own for 2months without being paid?

Sacrifices? Did you put yourself in his shoes? How's he going to eat, transport himself to work without being paid?

Just open mouth waaaaaaaa.
I said it's not easy working without pay.
And to your question, yes.
I have worked for a boss for 3 months without pay cos I put myself in his shoes and realized we weren't making enough sales and I remembered that when the going was good, he paid on time and even paid us '13th month' salary.
