Filling stations still sell at N141 in Ondo From Tunde Raheem, Akure Tuesday, January 17, 2012 Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Following the reduction of pump price of petrol from N141 to N97 per litre by President Goodluck in his nationwide broadcast, many filling stations in Ondo State did not dispense fuel yesterday. Most of the filling stations visited by Daily Sun in Akure, Owo, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo, Ore and Okitipupa towns were under lock while few of the filling stations that opened were still selling at N141 per litre. Only the NNPC mega station in Akure complied with the new pump price directives and its attendants were busy dispensing the product to the motorists when the Daily Sun visited the station along Akure-Owo-Abuja Express Road. Some filling stations attendants declined comments on why they were still selling the product at the controversial N141 per litre when the president had announced the reduction of the pump price to N97 per litre. Few of the attendants who spoke with Daily Sun under the condition of anonymity said they were acting on the instructions of the owners of the filling stations that the pump price should remain N141 until there was further instruction from their end. This development, however, has forced some motorists not to buy the product at N141 while only few who could afford to buy it at that rate complained about the exploitative act of filling stations owners. Meanwhile, the NLC and TUC in the state are observing sit-at-home protest following the security report that some hoodlums were planning to hijack the street protest of the union in the state and using the opportunity to attack NNPC mega station in Akure and other Federal Government establishments in the state. Also, the coalition of civil society organisations in the state, which protested last Friday yesterday shunned the street protest following the attacks on their members in the last Friday street protest by some political thugs. The civil society organisations, it was gathered, were holding series of meetings on how to map strategies to embark on street protest again. One of the coordinators of the group, Seyi Opeyemi, while speaking with Daily Sun disclosed that the last Friday attack on their members was politically motivated and “we have to go back to our drawing board to map out strategies. Meetings are going on and whatever be our conclusion, we shall write a communiqué to the press,” he added. Meanwhile, due to the suspension of the street protest by the NLC and TUC in the state, commercial activities were at low ebb. Most of the motorparks visited by Daily Sun in Akure town witnessed low patronage; also, there was low turn out of people in most markets in some towns in the state. |

Aren't these the same people protesting? It has been reduced to 97 Naira, yet they still sell at 141. What do these confused people want? |

WOW . . . . . I cannot believe I will have to try explaining this one to a supposed grown up, but . , here's a go . . . That the President decided this morning to make the price Naira 97, means it ought to start selling that way IMMEDIATELY? Did he forward refund checks IMMEDIATELY to all Gas Stations that had purchased their product at the hiked price of 140 or more? Or are they all supposed to SACRIFICE their profits, as is the way some of you think it should be, for his will to be done with immediate effect? is that how you processed this one? |

Some folks and their one-track mind. What is the evidence they bought fuel at a higher price? Most of them were already stocked up before the increase. BTW, NNPC reduced its own price, an evidence of the fact that they never imported at a high price commensurate to selling at 141. It appears that common sense is not common after all. |

Thats true only NNPC stations sell at 97naira bringing to light d fact that marketers dint buy any new stock as I earlier reasoned. |

^^^ I find it hard to believe that a grown up actually thought about this and still came up with what you have there . . Let's pretend we can try this again. The retail price of imported fuel has been around this 140 or so price for at about year now . . so importers, if there was no subsidy for the last year, would have been selling at 140. However, the presence of subsidy rebate, allowed the marketers to sell their import at a cheaper price and still come out on top(because Government paid them the difference). Since the rebate expired, and Government no longer paid them the difference (meaning if they sold at the low price, no one would refund them the difference) they had to resort to selling it at the recommended retail price --- it made no sense for the marketers to short change their own selves. |

Na wao for some of us. Were we really expect them to revert to N97 instantly?Come on people!, If we get N97 today,we should be thankful. . .I mean for the privately owned stations not NNPC |

As expected. They will always have an excuse to sell higher even if they still have subsidized stock. |

Re: Filling Stations Still Sell At N141 In Ondo by Nchara: 3:51am On Jan 18, 2012 |
sbeezy8: Some of us protested in favor, others against. Those for will have to defend themselves. Those against likeself me did so because subsidy removal was good with me. Why do you have a problem with what is good for me? Are you an enemy of progress? |
Re: Filling Stations Still Sell At N141 In Ondo by Kobojunkie: 4:22am On Jan 18, 2012 |
mcnepow: But NNPC is an agency under the government and can afford to loose money on behalf of the Government. |
