According to various news reports, “Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio has said the state would raise over N150 billion from the capital market through bond with a viewing to financing the industrial development of the state in the coming year.”

What Akpabio does not include in Application Form submitted to the Security and Exchange Commission is the fact that there are at least two cases pending against him in the courts of law. One case deals with the fact that Akpabio contested the governorship election of 2011 with a forged Certificate of Clearance---a very serious criminal offense. The other case is before the Tribunal in Uyo for rigging the 2011 governorship election---a felony, which may lead to treason. Trial on the rigging case begins in Uyo next week, while that of forging the Certificate will be held on January 30 (2012) at an Abuja court. Analysts and observers have concluded that at least one of the cases (if not all of them) will eventually force Akpabio to leave the office. And the entire outcome to all these may be witnessed within the next 90 to 180 days. So why is Akpabio applying for N150 billion loan?
