Dear poster, I'm also a grad. of COMP.ENG YCT.In fact I finished wt d very 1st set(2008) and wt uper crdt too.I vowed not to go 4 HND, not because I'll be poor if I do, but because I'll neva be fulfilled.I tried DE 2009(UNILAG)wt enough 'leg',didnt click,Ume(UNILAG) nd DE(UI Elect/elect) again in '10 but, no way(ITK and overconfidence killed me in unilag post ume) all those while I was learning to make cloths so I wasnt just idle.In 2011, I finally got into Unilag(c.eng: I so much love dt course).So far, I can tell u dr's a huge difference(d ambience,curriculum not to mention d difference in d cert.).As 4 d money(dts 1 of d reasons I ddnt want to leave lag), just try and get good grades(2.1 and above) in ds 200L and apply 4 scholarships.U can also try doing odd jobs or enrol in work-study program(if dr is in Ife).Goodluck mate(I'm 23 too).

@poster with a[n] HND CERTIFICATE you cannot  join a professional assciation like NSE and COREN Professor  Awojobi of blessed memory was not referred to as an Engine because of B.Eng. please go to OAU. I have a ND from the best Agric college some of my friends go for HND and some of us go went to universities. today we are their boss and we are able to use the ND experience in the field. please go to University .

Any HND holder that is treated like poo in his place of work is because he is not good enough for the job. The only way that a good HND holder can be cheated is in salary and position and nothing more.

i am an OAU final year student of Computer Engineering. Most of the D.E students end up struggling when they enter because of their workload. Most of them, who are not to good end up doing courses like MTH201 or MTH202 over and over again. the 2nd year in the Faculty of Tech in OAU is the most stressful, and that's when you'll enter. So my advice is this; Coming to OAU will only be worth it if you know you'll be ale to cope with the OAU stress and work Very hard. it will be useless coming to OAU and having graduating with a low CGPA or extra years.

OAU will definitely provide you with a lot of opportunities, competition, ideas, and other stuff. But you will be glad you came eventually. Age is not a factor cos you are not yet 25. So weigh our options. Money is not an issue. OAU is the cheapest University in Nigeria at the moment.

Dear all, I finished my ND @ yaba college of Technology 2010, right now, i am almost done with my one year industrial training. I applied for driect entry to Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife to study computer engineering, Fortunatly, i was giving admission. I equally applied for HND @ yabatech to finish up my computer engineering career there, i was equally giving admission, Right now, i am so much confused on which one to take, looking at ASUU strike and how many years i am going to spend @ OAU IFE, if i am @ yabatech, i will just do more two year buy but OAU will take like four years all things being equall, Most importantly, My people are against oau ife cos of the years and financial aspect of it, I really do not know what to do now, I really need your candid advice, I am 23years of age. waiting anxiously for your comments.

U need to weigh your options. BSC is better any day but that doesn't not mean you can't do well with HND. I was in same situation in 2002. I got OAU D.E admission in 2002 while I was doing IT but I was enjoying my work and I didn't want to leave Lagos. My boss also offered me more money cos of my contributions on projects. He promised to get me Admission into UNILAG but all failed as I was not given admission. I decided to go back for HND 2years after then I was already earning more than even MSC holders in my company. I did both full-time job and full-time school. It was tough but fruitful. My boss understood when I must be in school and he gave me the privilege. Immediately after my HND before my result even came out I was offered another job with another company on recommendation. I didn't apply.

I can tell you that they treat me like KING everywhere I have worked and where I work presently because of the difference I bring in on job.

But my problem is that I still feel uncomfortable anytime I remember that I am HND holder and am presently planning to do a top-up BSC programmer online with a UK university.

My Scenario is very uncommon but if you think you are very good at what you do, your certificate doesn't matter but BSC is more appreciated.

I am a living testimony to ur present situation. Graduated top of my class (ND computer sci) @ fed poly ado in 2007. I never had any doubt abt where to go. I will b graduating @ OAU computer engr. this year[b] @ 26[/b]. The age shld not b a factor to consider. Most of us DE in my class will b graduating with honours. With ur background u will do excellently well studying compt engr. @ OAU.
