Does this phrase reflect the present realities on ground in Nigeria?

One nation bound in Freedom peace and Unity: Nigerian National Anthem last line.

As we speak, a conference on finding lasting solutions to the endemic politically sponsored and motivated killings and general unrest in the Northern part of Nigeria is underway.

What is a Nation: One Nation is a people within a geographical space with one mind, one focus, one destiny and one love for their country/nation.

One Nigeria was a popular slogan during the Nigeria/Biafra war 1967-1970, Policy of reconciliation embarks on by the Gowon's Administration was only a lip service slogan.

Nigerian love for their Country

Nigerian truly love their country, but problem arises when that love has to be practical.

Over the year the good relationship and unity that existed among the people of Nigeria was flittered away by the advent of the Military into politics.

They sow seeds of discords among the ethnic nationalities in other to achieve their on primordial interest; selfish interest was the vanguard of these men.

Patriotism was moved to the back sit, Nepotism, Tribalism held sway.

Frivolities, Recklessness, Negligent, and Sabotage were all encourage consciously and unconsciously by the military administrators

Press freedom was at the lowest level, state accounts became personal accounts of whoever was in power at the time.

Accountability was given a different meaning, the people were accountable to the head of state and the military administrator, and it was business as usual.

Re-Birth of Democracy in 1999-Till Date

April 29 1999 is a day i will remember for one thing and that has to do with the inauguration of a new civilian administration in Nigeria.

The Unity of the country was put to test once more, the were enthusiasm from the populace on what to expect from the new set of leaders that were emerging, It is on record that there has been no meaningful growth in government policies promulgation and implementation.

Why so?

The reasons are simple, during the years that the military were in power, they were looting and milking the nation in collaboration with their civilian counterpart.

When the military were chased out of power by the people, the civilian conspirators were ill prepared to take over the mantle so sudden.

They wished the military era never came to an end, but God’s ways are beyond the comprehension of mortal beings. Nigeria is one indivisible entity, a great and prosperous nation, with very wonderful people.

Recently:

AS the nation enters the golden era after attaining the age of 50 as an indivisible entity, the onus is on the leadership to exert a greater influence on the life of the people.

Isn’t that the Primary Responsibility of Any Government?

While this may be a bit of a surprise to people in the developed nations, it is a way of life in the other part of the world.

Public officers have one Nation One Man concept mentality, If you are opportune to be there as a public officer in any capacity, it’s automatically an opportunity to embezzle all the public funds available.

The incentives are very lucrative for stealing public money, some of which are

1. You earn the public perception and accolades you will never have for being honest.

2. You become and instant success story, Relations and friends uses the opportunity to give countless testimonies to God for a final break through from poverty.

3. The Nigerian police are ever ready to give you them maximum protection for stealing public fund.

Why do they steal when given the opportunity to serve?

a. If they don't steal, their friends and relations will castrate them in their minds as a monumental failure.

b. They will have no public respect and will never get call to deliver any public lecture anywhere in the country

Why this mentality:

The answer is Greed.

What is then the meaning of National Unity?

National Unity is a phrase by public officers where the populace is constantly being brain-washed to believe that once there is life there is hope.

Complacency developed when this hypnosis has been digested in the minds of the people.

What is the way forward?

National unity is one Nation bound in Peace and Unity, which is only possible when greed and personal aggrandizement is pushed to the back sit and subsequently eliminated thereafter.
