I thought we had broadband in Nigeria, considering that sometimes Glo, MTN and more recently Etisalat (all depending on where you are) are fast anough to stream You tube etc with little or no buffering at speeds ranging anywhere from 500kbps to 2mbps.

However, we are being left behind!! I am shocked to learn that people in the UK (fibre optic I might add and not 3G or HSPA+!!) are connecting to the internet at speeds up to 30-50Mbps and they are now targeting 100-300Mbps!!! Fast enough to download a song in 5seconds! A song is typically about 3-4Mb or a HD movie in 5 minutes. A HD movie is roughly 5Gb.

Dont believe me? Then follow the link.

When will we get here? What happened to all the fibre optic Glo was laying in Port Harcourt like a year or two ago?

My Dear,

It amaze me to hear bout all the speed shit most of our communication service providers shout in the media, cos i really cant see any magic they are performing, recently, i went to Egypt just to discover that the internet service we pay a fortune for is next to free in that African country, so you don't even need to go as far as U.K or Europe, most of us complain bout Oil subsidy removal, not knowing we are been ripped off from all other sectors of the economy, it is the proverbial story(the rich taking from the poor to enrich himself the more) in the Bible that is the order of the day in this country, i just pray that God in His mercy will look upon our situation and heal our land.

In my own little way, I'll do my best to change this Nation.

That stupid modem/dongle is just a dial-up system and that is so year 2000.

Build a good backbone or revamp organisations like NITEL and deploy a reliable and dependable DSL/ADSL lines.

Most people dont have to leave the comfort of their homes everyday with good internet speed availability, you can reduce your carbon footprints exploiting VoIPs rather than climbing on that plane for a 5 minutes meeting in Abuja from Lagos.

The only problem is we would be a menace to the world if we have good internet speeds, we will upgrade from yahoo++ to yahoo square roots.

Imagine starting a movie download, you go upstairs to grab a soda and its done by the time you're back. we are really far back. A nigerian isp capped my download to about 100Kps recently (fair usage policy they said), i wasn't even getting a speed of up to 1Mbps (like they advertised) before they capped me. It was a nightmare

guys dey vex u dey talk yahclick, as if that one have come to save the day. In UK it takes 15minutes to download a 5g hd movie. But for naija it takes 3days to complete. But if you try Mtn or glo internet, if you are staying in mile 2 area just open yahoomail type in your user name and password trek go oshodi come back enova still open. Then they will now do as if they are doing you a favour by giving you 10mb free. What's dat for? On iphone if you type www.youtube.com dats =10mb. As for Oyinbo, if they will have the chance to disconnect Nigeria from the whole thing call internet, it will be a very big achievement than killing osama bin laden.
