Has anyone driven the 2012 sonata. you will not want to come down from the car.the me the hyundai brand has come to stay.just that we are die hard when it comes to brands in Nija.Toyota,Hunda etc.To me the fact that you dont get the parts every where should be an advantage. You are sure if you repair your car with their agents that you are are not having a fake spare part.i recomend them to nigerians.Just that it may be hard to sell when you want to dispose them for now because of the nigeria factor.

If 180 is obtainable or a normal base then I guess the speedometer is decieving you cos that's an awful load of speed....try 180 with a benz, volks, infiniti, lexus, e.t.c nd u'll see your self riding next to a Dana plane on air.....

I'm sure u knw what happens 4 mile to touch down..haha

i use to drive a toyota before i bought my ix35 few months ago and i am very disappointed with the performance of this Korean car.
the steering is very stiff, the road noise is unbearable, not too fantastic in rough terrains and the sound system sucks!

imo, Toyota and Hyundai are far apart.

Let me state this clearly.. I own two Hyundai vehicles.. The Sonata (09) and the Santa Fe (2012)..

My 2009 Hyundai Sonata is just downright amazing... She has beaten my expectation in every sphere..

So when I bought my Sonata in 2008, I was looking for a good brand new car and didnt want to spend so much money on the popular brands. My friend told me about the Hyundai and luckily, they had a promo offer on it as well.. So I bought mine..

Spec;

Full Option; Leather seat, fog lamps, reverse sensor, power driver seat, sun roof and the works..

Her current milage is 34,000 KM.. Shes due for her next service at 35,000..

I havent had any problems whatsoever except once when she wouldn't start for no apparent reason until I realized that her batteries were dead..

Testimony; I took her on a three state tour this easter. I had fitted her with brand new tyres, alignments and balancing, serviced her and she was set for the trip..

On the trip, my average speed was 160km/h.. My max speed was 220km/h.. As was my experience with a KIA Sephia II and the KIA rio, when you hit 100, the car starts to wobble and traction becomes very poor.. Anyways, mine handled like a sweetheart. The only downside I noticed was its acceleration was very poor, and maybe it was due to my heavy footed driving, but she drank fuel like a thirsty dessert traveller drinks water.. But to testify to her suspensions, during that trip, I hit an embankment that sent my Sonata air borne at 180km/hr ... and let me just say that when she landed, she didnt waiver..

Simply put, Hyundai surprised me with this particular vehicle.. And the 2012 model is just breath taking!!

BUT just so you know.. I saw a 2012 accent at my garage that was badly accidented.. The front was badly hit, the engines were almost in the front seat, the car also flipped and skidded on it side in that accident aswas evidenced by the peeled paint .. BUT WHAT STRCK ME AS ODD WAS THAT her Airbags didnt deploy.. Infact, I saw 3 other relatively new Hyundais that had suffered high impact frontal accidents that didnt have deployed airbags.. This only goes to question the quality of the hyundais shipped into Nigeria by these Indians..

What quality? Indians import scraps units that can't be sold in US export only or made for South Africa
Fyi Honda sold 5000 units more than Hyundai last year.I bet Hyundai overtook Honda already this year.
Even Mercedes and BMW is sweating over the Genesis and Equus just google the pic of this car

I THINK SOME MODELS FROM TOYOTA AND HONDA ALSO HAVE SOME PROBLEMS , the Hyunai Tucson being crappy has stated above doesn't mean all HYUNDAI vehicles are bad .,please lets talk on General terms
thanks

Am not saying all Hyundais are bad. Just sharing my experience and opinion. I almost went for an Elantra in 2009, but got the Corolla instead. I was disappointed the Elantra could not play mp3 CDs and some of the models didn't have ABS. Same as some of the Kia Cerato of same year. All the Toyotas have ABS and the Corrolla standard deck could play mp3 CDs with CD Text.

The US model Hyundais might have better standard equipment, though. Maybe the Nigerian importer of the brand skims on some feature to sell vehicles cheaper.

The Hyundai and Kia wins hands down in the looks department, though.

Not all Toyota have ABS. Just don't come with it.

It takes time for any car brand to build a reputation for quality and reliability. A brand like Toyota is already a by-word for long-term reliability because we can see people driving their 15 to 20 year-old cars around without serious issues.

If in 10 years time we see 2008 Sonatas on the road going strong then we will be able to conclude that Hyundai is indeed a maker of reliable cars. Any new car can perform well, but the true test of a good car is the test of time.

I drove 2010 fully loaded for just 2yrs ...meen that car was heaven! Had to trade it in for a Nissan quest '11 when the kids increased and no space for 3rd car seat..., I think it's a great car but it depends on where you're driving it and the mileage on it...I'll leave the rest to the experts's advice on parts cos I just take my cars to dealership for repair...

I test drive a friends Hyundai accent , just to have a feel of the ride, it felt like a leaf, like i was pulling a baby's cart at unreasonable speed, out of curiousity i peep at the speedometer and was shocked at how it read 125 knph just like that in the city way, with no effort. I kept asking myself if their reading is the true standard reading or if they do have another standard that they follow. i have been trying to imagine that speed with that of my benz, it didnt really seem fast to me(it was like 60 kmph of my benz),but just unsafe with the Hyundai accent handling, it got me too scared.

I first drove the elantra in 2008, and I was moved to ma brains. The had a smooth drive it was stable on the ground and the engine was so intact.
I could not rate the car side by side with the corolla it was meant to compete with. Rather, I rated the cars perfomance with the Camry 4 cyclinder engine.

I later drove the 2012 eleantra and the Sonata. OMG! That was where they finished my imagination as regards to what crap has Toyota and honda have being given us.

Performance compared to the regular cars we use to, is second to non. The toyota camry obviously can't stand the Sonata. Body built, interior, functionality, durability, strength, except its a V6 camry. What Sonata has done is to give u as their regular v4 what Toyota would give as their V6. And their V6 forget it!

One of the few issues you probably might have with the car, is avalaibility parts. And our regulatory body should allow for proper standard vehicles, so we don't keep getting crap into our country.

And I hope the company would not lower their standard as they gain more leg room in the market.

If u going for the Sonata and eleantra, you won't go wrong!

The Hyundai and Kia are on a class of their own. They may not necessarily be compared to the likes of Toyota and Honda in terms of performance. I believe as earlier suggested by earlier posters, the Korean brands are built with economy in mind. I drove a 2011 Kia soul from Abuja to Lagos, it feels so light at 100kph and have just basic features. In my opinion, if you compare that Soul with a 2010 Toyota corolla of the same 4 cylinder and 1.8lt engine, the difference is so clear. In terms of fuel effeciency, I do not think it has a better economy. But one thing is paramount, there break system beats that of Toyota or Honda for the model I drove.

I have owned and driven different models of Toyota and Honda, their performance outweigh that of their Korean counterpart. That is not to say they are not good brands, but in comparison to the Japanese, they are world apart. All car models have their peculiar issues but a Toyota or Honda brand will outclass a Hyundai or Kia in terms of durability, performance and reliability. All over the country, we can see cars like Carina 2 and Honda halla well over 20 years still going very strong...can we say the same thing about the Kia and Hyundai?

I strongly believe that if these Korean cars last up to this number of years on the road and are still competing with other vehicles, then, we would have a basis for comparison. Let's see how we'll the handle after 10 years of use with propare mentainance & in terms of resale value. Only then shall we rate them equal or superior to their Japanese competitors.

i drive one of their SUV (ix35), so far the performance is okay. i will agree with some comments on better brake system, steering so soft when on top speed etc.

The only issue is the spare parts which if you dont get from their service centres in Gbagada or ijesha you will just be wasting your money to buy fake parts. i have wasted almost 35k to get brake pads for my car from technicians until i discovered that you cant get the original specialised brake pads sold by hyundai except from their service centres. there brake pads cost 25k and am thinking of getting one soon.

For those who complained that they once had an issue of the car not starting when the ignition is turned on, i had the same issue but it was due to the steering not straightened when the ignition is turned on.

Really spare parts are expensive.
