PDP's Murtala Nyako Wins Adamawa Governorship Election by juventino: 10:31am On Feb 05, 2012
With results from the 21 local government areas in the state collated, a former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako, has reclaimed the governorship seat he lost 10 days ago.

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party's candidate garnered 302, 986 votes to beat his Action Congress of Nigeria challenger, Markus Gundiri, who  polled 260, 405 votes. The candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Buba Marwa, was only been able to win 107, 564 votes.

Mr. Nyako won 13 of the 21 local goverments while the ACN candidate prevailed in eight.

By winning the majority of votes and 25 per cent of votes in two-thirds of the local government areas in the state, Mr. Nyako has fulfilled the constitutional requirements to be pronounced winner.

Mr. Marwa, a former military administrator and presidential aspirant, was not able to win anywhere.

He was roundly defeated in his home local government of Michika.

The election has shattered the permutation of political pundits who had predicted a keen contest but saw victory going the ACN candidate's way.

Our correspondent say the outcome of the election has left many people in the state  transfixed many others bemused.

The state's returning officer,Prof Mohammed H. Mohammed, vice-chancellor of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, is now being awaited to officially announce the result of the election.

The ACN returning officer, a Mr. Sonny, alleged there were alterations in some result sheets and hinted that his party might challenge the result in court.

Those who like to refer to ACN as tribal party, take note

The A.C.N candidate Gundiri had very little support, if any, from the national body. Tinubu's party seems content being a regional behemoth

Gen Buhari is a victim of character assassination. For most xtains in the north, CPC = Religious Crisis thanks to media BRAINWASHING

Don't be surprise when there is a consensus on ground you would see PDP polling 380,000+ to the consensus vote of ACN/CPC of 367969 still given PDP the edge. It is a no win situation, if the PDP is determined to win the election they would win it, come what may, if you like combine 100 parties votes together they would still edge it scientifically.

The game plan of the PDP is not to lose any of their stronghold in the north and the same time keep hold of their stronghold in the South-South Zone, that would give them serious leverage to bargain with.

how did Nassarawa people do it? we belittle ourselves and our potential to induce change

for the ACN candidate in adamawa the ACN national body left him to the wolves. that he garnered that much vote is testament to his potential to have won if he had the necessary support. see how OBJ, atiku and other PDP big wigs stormed Yola. OBJ is still respected in the north. Where was tinubu, akande and even fashola? fashola is looked upon as a model governor and would have helped show adamawa people what to expect of an ACN government.

of course there will no post election analysis by ACN and a real and genuine process of correcting the errors that led to the losses. it will the usual excuses - scientific rigging.
Re: PDP's Murtala Nyako Wins Adamawa Governorship Election by Actionleap: 12:56pm On Feb 05, 2012
When PDP are closing ranks and burying their hatchet during critical elections, opposition works at cross-purposes. Imagine OBJ and Atiku campaigned for Nyako despite the fact that they will slit each others throat at slightest opportunity. Marwa should have stay and contest under ACN instead of jumping up and down like a glorified harlot.

currently cpc is left behind,
pdp has won with just a
narrow merging to its
rival acn. its seems like our
citizens are still not ready
to change this
unexperience leader.
If there is any suffering again no one to blame only we the poors cause we got every opportunity to change this government but unfortunate we r blind about religious issue, oh what a miss.

Re: PDP's Murtala Nyako Wins Adamawa Governorship Election by Nobody: 1:32pm On Feb 05, 2012
I didnt even bother to read the whole story. Who else do we expect to win. Election that abasanjo and atiku became friends overnight, stood on the same podium and personally campaigned for, and u expect them not to win? I am not being religious here, but with the state of affairs of this country, only God can deliver us. Even a revolution cant change d deep rooted corruption, tribalism, fanatism and murders, only God!

Re: PDP's Murtala Nyako Wins Adamawa Governorship Election by hakanai(m): 1:42pm On Feb 05, 2012
well,The few people i have spoken to in Adamawa seem to vote along religious/tribal lines than based on the party and the qualities of the person. The ACN fronted a xtian candidate and the xtians mainly voted in there areas for him en-mass.Like wise the Muslims for Nyako.Marwa lost out Because it is clear a split in votes could favour other side.In the equation he marwa is minority and Muslim.Giving way to Nyako same faith but different tribe. While Minorities will support ACN for tribe and xtians would also support him too.So my take is tribal and religious views made the people vote.I can assure you that if you check the LGAs you could pick the reasons plainly.Issue of minority vs majority and religion. Its not largely party !!!!!

adamawa is almost split somewhat between Christian and Muslims . that will reflect in the voting pattern to some extent.

religion aside and truth be told; Nyako performed better than Boni Haruna a Christian and atiku's erstwhile protege. in 4 years Nyako physical development is far better than Boni 's eight years.

I expect undecided voters to go for him What(Nyako) over untested Markus. after all physical development will benefit all adamawa people. and that's what matters .
