The demand by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) for a commitment from the Federal Government to guarantee the security of Boko Haram leaders for them to dialogue has been described as vexatious and insulting.

ACF had, in a press statement signed by Alhaji Aliko Mohammed and Mr. Anthony N. Z. Sani, its chairman, NEC and national publicity secretary respectively, stated among other things that, “the Federal Government should commit itself openly and unambiguously in guaranteeing the security of leaders of Boko Haram when eventually they come out for dialogue promised by the president.”

But the Alliance of Igbo Youths (AIY) which yesterday reviewed the state of the nation and the press statement of the ACF said though the Forum’s statement was equally disappointing, it had however made the search for the sponsors and powers behind the terrorist group easier.

Addressing newsmen shortly after its meeting in Awka, AIY’s Emeka Moneme and Johnbosco Muozoba, secretary and chairman respectively said it was necessary to remind the ACF that those they were seeking protection for had committed series of heinous crimes.

The statement which was read by Moneme reads in part: “We view with total disappointment, the vexatious and provocative press statement attributed to the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) and published in a number of some national dailies demanding among other things, commitment from the Federal Government to guarantee the security of Boko Haram leaders.

“Do we need to remind the ACF that these Boko Haram leaders had committed, and boldly claimed responsibility for series of heinous crimes against humanity which included the Christmas Day bombing of Christian worshippers inside their place of worship at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Madalla that killed over 44 innocent, defenseless men, women and children as well as systematic massacre of Christians and Igbos across northern Nigeria?
“The current campaign by the ACF to shield bandits and terrorists parading as Boko Haram from facing the consequences of their actions raises a number of curious questions. Do we need to search further for the sponsors and powerhouse behind the Boko Haram sect? Is the Boko Haram agenda same as the much touted Northern Political and Religious agenda?

“Why was it impossible for ACF to commit northern governors, emirs, imams and northern elders to guarantee the security of Christians and Igbos in the North as the so called Boko Haram sect freely carried out their programme of exterminating Christians and Igbos? “The reference by ACF to the UN resolution 1963 of 2010 is pathetic, as the premeditated, unprovoked attack and systematic killing of innocent, defenseless men, women and children because of their religious beliefs and tribal origin cannot be described as civil unrest or social conflict. It is called genocide.”

AIY described the claim by ACF that more Muslims were targeted victims of Boko Haram assault as not only an afterthought but mischievous, questioning how many mosques or Muslim gatherings were bombed or attacked by Boko Haram. It further asked, “If the Boko Haram agenda is to correct the mistake of 1914 and Islamize northern Nigeria as they claimed, why didn’t they engage the Federal Government to convene a Sovereign National Conference?”

I too was shocked with this story. It simply tells us that BH is d militant arm of d northern political establishment. U only negotiate when u have ur enemy boxed to corner, dat way u'l have a betterr bargaining ground. I also don't think govt needs them to come out voluntarily as d ongoing investigations is sure to unmask them.

Mend has shown everybody the way.
Make the Nigerian millitary look defenceless, while u get international attention, then proceed to negotiate.
The only flawed part here is the negotiation, they probably didn't plan to negotiate this early, the capture of abul qaqa changed everything.

When mend/ND pple were being rewarded for parasitism nobody said anything. They even went as far as killing their kidnap victims but no one said nada. BH are simply tapping into the it for more options now that they av been busted.

Those of you comparing MEND n Boko Haram are realy sick in the head. Mend are figthing for something that is their Right, and they pose no threat to national unity. But what is BH figthing for, nothing. I guess you all know that the number of people boko kiled in a month is even more than what Mend have kiled since their existence.

it would be impossible to have dialogue if no ones safety is guarenteed, its simple no need to dribble. people want dialogue and a end to violence, certain criteria have to be met, the acf is not entirely wrong, its not asking for protection of a organisation, its asking for protection of individuals in the light of dialogue, give us a single problem that has been solved through dialogue after every party involved in the dialogue got arrested or killed? dialogue was always a suggestion, and certain things have to be sacrificed, differences be set aside even if just for a few hours, if everything is in the name of ending violence, i support 100%

I'm still trying to what logic is being employed in comparing Boko haram to MEND.

i totally disagree with the notion that MEND and BH are anywhere near similar.

1. Mend specialised in attacking infrastructure vital to the oil and gas industry, BH are firmly focused on claiming as many lives as they can to prove their point (which we know is not clear)

2. Mend were known for hostage taking with minimal loss of life compared to these BH animals, they even warn the authorities before they attack

3. They had a set and defined struggle which though was pursued by violent means, enjoyed grassroot support.  Does anybody remember the british hostage oil worker who identified with the militants struggle and refused to leave the camp even after his ransom had been paid.

4. BH are funded by desperate and fading oligarchs and are motivated by poverty, fanaticism, narcotics and demons to take as many innocent lives as they can by attacking people in their places of worship and in their offices. What do they want? today its non-xtians in the north, tomorrow they want southerners out, later they fighting to revenge against the govt. etc

The attack on kano was the last straw with over 200 dead in one day, dialogue with these beasts cannot happen unless GEJ wants his authority eroded and another somalia type power sharing system created. if he does so history will not forgive him

it is a disappointing attitude typical of the yorubas.they always defend hausa/fulani/boko haram while the hausa/fulani on NL are running away because of shame.it will be interesting to see how they fare in one nation with hausa/fulani without the SS/SE.
