@Poster

A DV cost half of what your asking price is.

Ivvie,did you mean half Uche4nna's price or half the price i posted?
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Ivvie: 1:04pm On Oct 19, 2007
250K to dollars is $1930.  That is over what you'll pay for an IBM.  I am referring to Klemente's post.  I purchased a DV9500z with an X2 processor about a month to a month and a half ago for less than half the price you are talking about.  I run CATIA, UGS, ABAQUS and PRO/E and needed something that could run it's simulation without maxing it's capacity and resorting to the blue screen of death.  It works fine, so far but it's light, soft plastic (extremely fragile) and the heat is far to high.  It is lightening fast also (X2 not intel).  That model is higher than 9500.

If you aren't buying a Fujitsu or IBM, you shouldn't pay more than $1100 for any notebook.   Those two are designed solely for the purpose of engineering and design or simulation.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Nobody: 3:03pm On Oct 19, 2007
Thank you so much Ivvie.You review has answered alot of questions.Well I've checked prices online and they all seem to be far lower than the asking price stores are quoting here in Nigeria.I think the cheapest quote i've gotten is from Uche4nna which is about 170,000 approx. $1350.I'm not even sure of the specifications yet.What i'm actually looking for is

Basic Specs.

Intel Core 2 Duo
2.0 GHz- 3.0 GHz processor speed.
2048 MB RAM(It can also support about 4 GB Memory)
Hard Disk Drive of about 160 GB - 200 GB will be great
Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support
5 in 1 Memory Card Reader
Bluetooth
HP Pavilion WebCam with Integrated Microphones

And any other additional feature.Anyone with this at an affordable price should please contact me via my email address mctbom2000@yahoo.com.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Ivvie: 4:21pm On Oct 19, 2007
My specs are higher.  I have the complete package.  I use an Athlon X2 64 bit processor with a 3200GB FSB.  The core duo is not half the match to that.  It is extremely fast and it handles my simulators briskly without lag and overnight simulation is possible without waking up with a blue screen.  The only thing is the heat and I guess it's the athlon processor.  Your post reminded me about my rebate that I haven't mailed in.  The only thing I can say is that it's not durable (it could break easily).  It's composed of synthetic plastic.

If you want to spend over $1900, buy an IBM.  You won't regret the Lenovo's but for me, they don't sell the athlon configured models.

If all you are doing is typing, streaming or music download, then you are fine with whatever you choose.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Ivvie: 4:38pm On Oct 19, 2007
I forgot to say, it's fast because I downgraded from Vista to XP because my programs don't work on Vista and in addition to that, Vista is for the birds.

Vista on that machine is not adequate but slow.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Nobody: 4:44pm On Oct 19, 2007
That's cool man but i'm abit skeptical about using athlon here in nigeria.You don't get people ready to help with repairs overhere.Well,since you are saying it's fast and better,I think i'll go for it instead of the Intel.Thanks for you help.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Ivvie: 4:57pm On Oct 19, 2007
I have an Intel desktop that has served me excellently for 2 years and it's fine. It handles my programs fine. I am extremely impressed with the Athlon and there is a difference. Intel Core 2 Duo runs 2 FSB of 633MHZ and the Athlon X2's run 2 FSB of 1.6GHZ clocking 3200 MHZ's. Compare 3200 to 1266 and you know you have a power pack somewhere. You'll experience the speed when you downgrade to XP. I'm only bothered about the heat it dissipates. It's not battery conservative too (as oppose to other brands that give 7 hours). Imagine when you have a 3.6G processor on a desktop. That will be sheer muscle.

When a processor goes bad, it does bad and it's best you replace the entire unit and not repair it. If you are concerned about durability, look towards IBM or Fujitsu. They are designed for 10 years and the security on the IBM's are second to none.

I also own a Fujitsu laptop but it's a Pentium 4 processor. It still performs as it did when purchased and in usage, it's still fast but I can't run my new MCAD and FEA programs on it because of it's clockspeed and motherboard restrictions. Fujitsu's are expensive but in the long run, they'll worth it.

ivvie what do u say for a laptop
hp dv9565ea,check it out and give candid comments, thanks
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Ivvie: 9:00pm On Oct 19, 2007
@Ik

It's the same thing but a wider screen and bigger hard drive. Not that portable. Performance is still the same. Since the screen is the most expensive part of a laptop, the price to that model will be hiked. I really don't know how much it is till I stop at the store to confirm it.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Nobody: 10:36pm On Oct 20, 2007
I totally agree with Ivvie.The screen size determines the price of a laptop.But i understand the Dv9500 series are all 17".Hope I'm right,

I've been looking for this particular model -dv9500 for a while now. Particularly the 17'' screen (I would prefer it for specific things) and the specs the poster added. The only one I saw was about 300k. If someone has an idea of how I can get it cheaper, would be very grateful.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Nobody: 11:19am On Oct 22, 2007
Nigerian retailers are greedy B*****DS,I've checked online and the highest price for this particular pavilion series is about $1,300 which is approximately N170,000 and i hear purchases from HP itself is just $1,039(Not sure if all features included).left to me,I'll probably get someone overseas to help me out on this.Buying things from naija's just a rip off.

I stand to disagree with you on such view but for you can help yourself arrive at a better judgement next time by doing some simple calculations below;

According to your survey the highest price was $1,300
Shipping to Nigeria will cost u  X=X1 > $200
Tax depending on the state(i.e for USA) will cost u Y=Y1 > $100

'Ceteris Paribus'

Cost of your Laptop = $1300 + X + Y = nothing less than $1,600

Now tell me what happens if you open that box and there's a dead pixel or any other factory errors, who bears the loss angry? - of course this is aside the fact that he needs to make some profit grin

Shipping to Nigeria will so not cost you more than $200. I have shipped parcels heavier than the laptop itself for $70 or less, UPS. It's an abnormally light unit that could easily break. Where do you get your own figures from? Purchasing from a sales agent will qualify you for free overnight shipping anywhere in the States and standard shipping anywhere else.

Kubo

You are shipping with an additional preference. It isn't the standard shipping. It's 25th and you want it delivered by 30th from California. It will definitely cost you 500 or more. Ship regular! If you'd pay $500 for shipping on a laptop that cost approx. $700, that's your priority. Not every one thinks this way.
Re: I Need A Hp Pavilion Dv9500 by Kobojunkie: 8:35pm On Oct 25, 2007
I am not shipping from California. I did not ask that it be delivered by the 30th, that was what I got when I entered information on the UPS site for a Laptop weighing 9lbs. All the other things you saw there are just what was added by their system.
